The previous reviewer is completely incorrect. Clyde's most definitely is the best stocked comic book store in the area (actually, Clyde's is the ONLY comic book store in the area, as Top Cut, which formerly was Tomorrow is Yesterday, is not a comic book store but rather a pokemon card shop for little kids and happens to sell a few comic books). Clyde's has hundreds of boxes of comics ranging from old comics of decades past all the way up to this weeks current books. You won't find a better and bigger stock of back issues in the state of Illinois. And the owner, Neil, is able to order things as well. Despite what the previous reviewer stated, he doesn't have trouble remembering to do so. Finally, the other great thing about Clyde's is that Neil is a comic book historian. He's been reading comics since the 1950's, and has read many comics from decades before that. If you have a comic book related question, he's the guy to ask (the newspapers call him when they need comic book info). He's a real comic book fan and knows his stuff, unlike the people at Top Cut, who...
Read moreThis place is probably low-key historically awesome. There are probably at least 40 years of back issues here. It took about ten minutes for the guy to re-arrange some boxes to get to the two boxes I needed but he knew exactly where everything was. This is NOT a place you can walk in and browse old issues leisurely. New issues are kept on a rack easily accessible, but everything older is meticulously catalogged and organized... it's just buried in stacks and boxes 6 feet high! Oh, and the owner is a walking encyclopedia of everything comic related. He WILL talk your ear off for an hour if you let him! I think he has read every single issue in this place. There are very few comic shop owners who are that passionate about what they do. This is not the place for bobble heads, or magic cards or games. Not even slabbed or graded comics... it is 99.9% raw comics from a guy who just loves comics for his...
Read moreWe were in the area visiting family and wanted to check out a local store to fill in some gaps in our collections. My sons and I went and immediately realized that Clyde knew his stuff. Although the store is packed right and not accessible, Clyde knows where everything is, knows about almost every series, and is willing to dig through the boxes to find what you want. He was diligent in finding stuff and priced the books fairly. We had a great time talking with him about old and new books, and we highly recommend a visit to this store if you have any interest in comics. If you’re looking to browse on your own for older comics, this is probably not for you due to the size of the store making it too tight to browse. But if you have the slightest idea of what you might want, Clyde will help...
