Mr Russ Mead opened the meat market in the mid-1940s, and my parents began shopping there shortly after they moved to Rockford from Chicago. Not only are the meats superior, but the personal service is stellar. Although I never met Mr Russ Mead, his son and grandson remember their customers by name AND not only remember the customers' usual orders, but also suggest products they might like to try. They are willing to make special orders, and suggest cooking tips if asked. Their catering service is wonderful. I love to get their barbeque sandwiches, but I always ask them to give me the bread and put the meat in a container...the sandwiches are so huge that I usually eat them...
