Planet Fitness — Local services in Rockford Township

Most of the showers in the ladies locker only get cold water. There's a mask mandate but nobody is wearing masks. Nobody cleans their machines after use either. Other than that I love it there. If they'd fix the showers and enforce the rules I'd give it 5 stars. The machines seem new and nice. There's a good deal of space. It's possible to find times when it's not real busy but not when you're an everyday exerciser who also works full time. The staff is mostly all really nice but probably way under paid which is a bummer for everybody involved. The parking lot is incredibly dangerous, Alpine location, Rockford Illinois. Multiple liquor stores in the shopping center adds bad driving and weirdos to the mix. Bring a weapon and be on full alert both in and out your car. That's the fault of the shopping center though, not planet fitness. Im gonna keep going back everyday but I figured other people should be forewarned. If you're not using the showers, going during the morning only, and you don't have preexisting health issues that put you at high risk when people don't comply with public health codes then you might get a five star experience here. My wife and I entered the club this morning and upon approaching the front desk saw that the scanners were down. The front desk attendant who was leaning over on the counter doodling and drawing pictures on a piece of scrap paper barked " I need you to sign in on paper". My wife began to sign our names on the sheet and I asked her if she had a stand up tanning booth available, ,without even lifting her her head to acknowledge us or make eye contact with us, she again barked out". I said I need to to sign in. Her attitude and tone of voice was completely disrespectful and condesending. When we confronted her about her repulsive , disrespectful attitude she continued to address us with a defiant smerk in her face refusing to even acknowledge her behavior even when we threatened to cancel our memberships and walk out,. which is exactly what we ended up doing. Gym is well maintained and contains anything one would need to meet fitness goals. The amount of people breaking clearly posted rules is a major turnoff to a gym that advertises a "judgement free zone" with rules in place to ensure all have a pleasant workout. People using the locker room as their personal office to make phone calls for over an hour on a regular basis. When voicing the concerns about this to a staff member, was told I should call the manager when she was available instead of dealing with the person to refrain (this was the 5th day in a row for never ending personal calls) Guys walking around in muscle tanks or shirtless or in jeans can be seen daily. The 30 min express workout is never supervised , in 7 weeks, only 1x have I been able to effectively follow the workout because everyone uses the area to sit on the machines to look at their cell phone or skip around to whatever machine they feel like, budging in front of others instead of following the rules clearly posted on the wall. Hard to get an effective workout in with this....
