I can officially write my review about Sacramento State now that I am graduating next semester with a Social Science BA, Economics BA, and History MN.
Even though it is a commuter school, there is some student life on campus. Enough to make it an enriching college experience. It is well diversified culturally and nationally. When I first came here I felt indifferent about the school, after coming close to graduation I have grown to really love and enjoy Sac State. It's a beautiful campus, especially in the Fall when leaves start turning color, and it's next to the river.
But what really gave CSUS it's high ratings in my opinion are the professors and students that I was able to share my semesters with. Many of the professors here are exceptional, well lived, and extremely competent in their field of study. The small classroom sizes help since we are more likely able to have one on one time with professors. TAKE ADVANTAGE of this opportunity. Many of the professors here (esp in ECN dept) are the same professors at Davis. In comparison to UC Davis students who get no one on one time with professors, even professors have told me at Davis they're all just student numbers, and aren't able to distinguish themselves, being at Sac State you really are able to. In the real world (work force related) being able to put a face to a name can make all the difference in your career. Also like some previous posts ahead, it is much more affordable than a UC Davis tuition. Take advantage! CSUS is really underrated.
I really give it 4.5 stars. It is a great amazing school. Has a lot to offer, but at the end of the day it's not perfect. There are some bad professors here and there (In my 3 years I've had 2-3) . Feels kind of dingy and old inside classrooms. I wish they had more money to remodel classrooms and use more high tech stuff. I wish they offered more internship kind of work for students. Etc. In general there are some things that can use improvement but overall it is an underrated school, with a lot more to offer. I came in not expecting much of Sac State but I have grown to appreciate and...
Read moreHorrible school. I should not have even gone the first day after how bad orientation was. Madison Bradley, one of the orientation leaders, was rude and impatient the whole time she had an angry face and even yelled at me near the end cause I was deciding something. I understand there's days where you might not be in the mood, but as an orientation leader, she left a bad impression of the school. 8 hours of awkward orientation and disrespectful behavior. Also, everyone was quiet and nice, so I don't know why she had an attitude so unprofessional of her.
Everyone in my group stopped asking questions because she'd answer in an annoyed tone. I had orientation in high school and community college. I seriously can't believe a high school orientation leader was more professional and helpful than a college orientation leader. What a joke!
The parking sucks and I tried to use public transportation but really unreliable for being a commuter school it really needs more parking and maybe have a train station or a travel bus that goes to other cities near the campus. The counselors don't care and were unhelpful. Also, i had two meetings canceled, and one of the counselors was mad and was passive agressive because i wanted to change my major. Also, what's up with every class having a group project worth half your grade? Are professors this lazy now? I don't want to leave my grade in the fate of random group members.
Really hated my first month here. I honestly dropped the school. I will be attending a better university, another year. There's a reason why it's so high in acceptance that they only want your money. The current president increasing prices proves this. Please go somewhere else this college is clearly for people living in the city if you want a real college experience and professional staff then don't go to this one. what a...
Read moreAlthough Sacramento State is not considered one of the most prestigious universities and if you're a top student you might decide to go elsewhere. However, I am not lying that my experience at this school is absolutely phenomenal.
--If you're a top student, this school will reward you for your hard AP work far more than the UCs will. You can get 6+ units for every exam you take. Take as many APs as you can, you'll certainly reap extreme benefits in class standing privileges. (this nullifies any complaints about hard to get classes, because you will have priority)
--That being said, attending Sacramento State first thing can actually be better than slogging through the Community College as you can jump quickly to your major courses with APs and cut down your graduation time to 2 years for smaller majors and 3 for engineering majors.
--I'm so glad I get to spend less tuition during my entire BS here than a single year at a UC.
--You get taught by professors rather than TA's in small class sizes; the professors have time to help you out with your troubles. I've had some of the most phenomenal professors in teaching that you won't find at a UC.
--The school also has a special focus in Electrical Engineering that I am taking advantage of by attending Sac State
--The social life for me is great here as I have joined Circle K International and the people are really inclusive, friendly, social, and don't peer pressure you to do bad things.
Summary, far far far better than what...
