Ive never had such a backward experience going to school until i stumbled into this one.
To start, I found it insane that teachers do not have access/are not made aware of your academic history if you transfer in. Like any other school you have to submit your transcript. Unlike any other school, you also have to seperatly pay for and send the same transcript to each of your teachers to prove you did in fact take the prerecs. If you dont do the records and admissions job for them, then you are punished and removed from the class.
I have also found my experience to be extremely poor in other ways. For example there is a teacher who assigns homework that is NEVER reviewed or mentioned in class. To be clear, the majority of my grade is based off of guessing through 60+ question quizzes at home when the concepts it covers HAVE NEVER BEEN INTRODUCED. You may ask if i have brought this up to the teacher. I have. I even brought it up to the dean who really seemed to have cared less about any resolution as much as he cared about pacifying me. No resolutions have been offered by administrators other than dropping the class or again having a useless conversation with the teacher (which i did and got nowhere fast). at this point i do not know how the job of the dean is supposed to be helpful or relevant if the only solution to academic concerns is pacification and telling the student to figure it out themself.
The single positive experience Ive had with their staff has been with their financial aid dept. Alexander has been wonderful in helping me sort out FAFSA issues. Huge shout out to them.
Ive heard ARC and Consumnes are much nicer campuses that function much more efficiently. Try your luck and spend your coin elsewhere.
Pro: near lots of food, ok campus, wonderful counselors, wonderful team in the financial aid dept to help with any issues, some teachers give good lectures
Con: most unhelpful faculty, bogus grading systems, hiding transcripts, dean is little more than a figurehead, school does not care about academic success, no real conflict resolution, no food court, overpriced student store and over priced cafe, nightmare...
Read moreI can't speak to the quality of education that they provide but I can say with confidence that their process for setting an appointment with counselors is absurd and effectively gatekeeps working adults from making appointments. There has not been a single time in which I have called to make an appointment in which there was ANY availability. They do have an online booking system, but it is archaic and poorly designed. I have yet to successfully book an appointment through their online system either despite numerous attempts. The only solutions I have ever been provided was to either attempt to call as soon as they open to try to get an appointment or go in person and just wait and hope they can fit you in during the day. As I'm sure is the case for many working adults, I cannot take the day off in the hopes I might get a seen by a counselor. Even if that were the case, many employers require at least a week or two notice to request days off such as this. Also, when the office opening hour is after my work day has already began, I cannot stop working to just hope to get my call answered first for an appointment as if I'm trying to call a radio station to win a prize. This is not a Michelin Star restaurant. Working adults shouldn't need to jump through unreasonable hoops just to speak to a counselor so they can set up an educational success plan. I'm starting to understand why so many adults try to go back to school to better their lives, but ultimately don't or can't. The system is garbage. Sac City College should be...
Read moreI wish there were 0 stars. This school is horrid. I didn't go to high school for 2 years, but graduated on time with a high school diploma through a lot of hard work and attending school from 7am to 7pm. Of course there is a lot I didn't know. I scored 300 in English, but my math wasn't that great. I retook math 3 times, they have a tutoring center where people looked down on me for not understanding mathematic basics, and not to mention the professor I had for 2 of the 3 years kept humiliating me in front of class constantly. I was so embarrassed and distraught. They made me feel stupid for having a desire to learn. Not to mention they had homeless people roaming the campus, one of them stabbed a friend of mine, and my friend got taken to the hospital from campus, there has been shootings, and rapes. It's super unsafe to stay at night classes. I also had a bad experience with a recognized club at that school, the professors will look down on you. I felt humiliated constantly. I have to say though, my history teacher has been one of the most influential women in my life. She is a great teacher. And I'm not saying all the teachers are bad, or that every student is the same. But with the violence, and the bad humiliations I received, I couldn't attend that school anymore. I ran out crying out of my math teachers classroom. I was constantly depressed. Overall, I would NEVER reccomend this school as an institution for learning. I've heard ARC has great programs, and CRC is a...
