I have a more detailed review on Facebook as google has a word limit. We really thought we found our new favorite store. I was excited to see it after my family told me about their dog, as I'm a dog owner myself & love animals! Everyone seemed so nice at first! My cousin bought a cute plush shark and my uncle bought beers. As he was checking out one of the owners was on a computer behind the desk & said that an item was lost. Didn't think anything of it. Even told us it was probably misplaced & joked with us. As we got to the car the cashier followed us. Asked if I "happened to take, or purchase, a bracelet." I told her no. I brought it up to my family. As a young female with arms & legs covered in tattoos, I'm used to getting various stares of curiosity & being misjudged but this was the first time someone had approached me. After we got back I told my dad. He agreed we should go back. It could have been a misunderstanding. I wanted to be honest & tell her how it made me feel. We really thought it would be a quick and civil conversation. My sister said she saw her take a picture of my uncle's license plate. We headed back to the store, this time with my dad with us. A younger girl was behind the counter. We asked to speak to the woman who was there. She responded, "Yeah, I know who you guys are. We have you on camera." Julie appeared, said, "Oh, we have it all on camera. This HD is very good. A sheriff is on the way." We were shocked by the immediate accusation. I was angry, but asked her to show us what she was talking about. She showed the recording of us in the shop. In the video my boyfriend was standing behind me as I was admiring a mermaid necklace. She pointed to a silver piece of jewelry lying on the table beside us that contained 4 racks of bracelets. As we walked away in the video, she exclaimed, "LOOK, IT'S GONE," referring to the bracelet. My dad asked what it looked like. It had silver stars, sun, + moon charms on it. They place it on the center of the table because it's "unique." I pointed out that my hands were visible during the entire video. "But HIS hands could have been anywhere." She kept saying things like, "I don't like doing this. I'm not that kind of person," but following with calling me a thief & smartass anytime I spoke. Brian was upstairs with us as well as the woman who originally approached me. Suddenly, my mom finds the bracelet on one of the racks. "Is this the bracelet you were talking about?" The room is silent for a moment & the woman who approached me confirmed that it was. I could tell that both she & Brian started to second guess the situation, but his wife was not convinced. She even went so far as to accuse me of giving my mom the bracelet and having her sneakily place it over there. At this point myself and my mom start crying out of pure frustration as my sister & dad protested in disbelief. The young girl had been standing behind my mom the whole time but didn't defend the accusation. Julie realized she was wrong just as the sheriff arrived. Before he could even say anything she told him that it's "taken care of." Didn't even apologize to him for wasting his time. As my dad followed him out to speak with him, she said stiffly, "If I made a mistake I apologize," & asked the employee if there's any way they could have overlooked it. She said slyly, "it's possible," while giving me a prolonged stare. Enraged, emotionally drained & heartbroken I begin to leave the store. Julie called to me to "look at her" while she tried to redeem herself but in defeat I threw my hands up and said that I would never be coming back. My dad & I spoke to the sheriff & he advised that we share our expierience everywhere, so here we are. I understand that it must be difficult owning a store, especially one that involves a bunch of new faces day in & day out. However, misjudging one of your customers, let alone a first timer, only to find that the accusation was false, is outrageous. Whether this assumption was due to my appearance or not, their lack of professionalism is what this...
Read moreI can't believe anyone would treat a customer so horribly after being proved their accusations are incorrect. Anywhere with a sense of human decency would have offered some sort of gratis to make up for the poor treatment of that young lady. There may always be two sides to every story, but there is no side to this story in which the employees treated this situation in a proper manner. I have visited this island every year with my family for a long while now and we always visit this shop. I can assure you i will no longer be shopping here and will advise my family to do the same. The fact that you all seem to have removed your reviews off your facebook page proves that you realize you've done...
Read moreIsland Dog is a wonderful place to shop! They have a variety of gifts and clothes, and have items for your pets along with homemade treats for your dogs! They also accommodate to the children who come in their shop by letting them pick a toy out of the treasure chest. It's a locally owned shop and the owners are working daily along side their staff. They enjoy talking to the customers who visit and learning about where they are all from. I highly...
