Butterfly Jac Salon — Local services in Salt Lake City

I hate leaving a bad review for this place because the staff is really nice, but unfortunately I have to leave my review based on the hair services I received, which were extremely disappointing.

Short version - I wanted to go platinum blonde from medium blonde. After 3 sessions and $250, walked out with darker hair color than I originally walked in with.

Long version - I chose Erin D based on reviews and a recommendation from a friend. My hair color wasn't in a great place - medium blonde, but brassy with some orange-y streaks that needed color correction. I was looking to go cool platinum, and provided several photos of a style I liked. Erin advised that it would take a few sessions to get my hair that light without damage, and I felt that was totally reasonable.

After 3 sessions and over $250 spent on services and products my hair is darker and more brassy than what I started out with. The last time I went in, Erin applied a toner to my hair to take the brass out of my blonde. She warned me that in order to a achieve a cooler shade, the toner that would be used would make my hair temporarily darker and would wash out after a few weeks.

Not only did the toner make my hair at least 3 shades darker, but it made it brassy and warm toned. She was nice enough to offer to do some foils on top so that my hair would be slightly lighter, but I still walked out of the salon with beige hair. Spoiler alert, even after 3 weeks the toner didn't wash out. I was left with much darker hair color than I walked in originally.

When I asked Erin what the plan would be if the dark toner didn't wash out, the only solution she could offer was to keep coming back every few weeks for more color sessions. When I asked her how many more $60+ sessions it would take to get the results I wanted, she didn't have an answer.

While my experience with color was really unsatisfactory, Erin did give a great and very reasonably priced haircut.

After my bad experience here, I went to Landis Salon for color. Their services are much more expensive, but I got much better results and the beige out of my hair in one session.

I just had my first visit to the Butterfly Jac Salon and had such an awesome experience! I also had the absolute pleasure of having Megan as my stylist. Not only is she very sweet and kind, but she is so talented and did a perfect job trimming my bangs. I’m very picky about who I allow to cut my hair. I had a very traumatic experience as a young girl when a lady at a salon chopped my long hair off above my shoulders when my mom took me in and instructed her that I just wanted it trimmed a few inches. After that day, I only got my hair cut from people I knew personally that had gone to beauty school and usually just did private jobs…so usually my hair cuts were few and far between. Since moving away from home and came to Utah, hair cuts became even more rare until they became absolutely necessary. All the places I’ve been to until now have been mediocre at best…they weren’t horrible but also unable to trim my bangs into a proper swoop. I just moved to the Liberty Park neighborhood and was desperate for a trim. I went to the Butterfly Jac Salon because of convenience and Megan happened to be my stylist and like I said-she trimmed and shaped my bangs perfectly! She listened to what I asked for and knew exactly what to do. I’ve never had a better haircut and she has made me a customer for life! Megan at Butterfly Jac is amazing; she has guided me on a wonderful hair journey for over 10 years. She listens to me and she thoughtfully plans the most beautiful cuts, color and styles. I trust her and Daisy to create a classic yet trendy look for me that simply is perfect!!! The atmosphere is friendly and super comfy cool and the service is magnificent; I am always greeted kindly by everyone ( including their assistant Katey; who is awesome) and the salon has a wonderful neighborhood feel.
