We recently purchased a new Volvo from Principle Volvo Cars San Antonio, 1326 NE Interstate 410 Loop, San Antonio, TX 78209, and we couldn't be happier with the experience! We did the full transaction over the phone and yes, they even drove our new Volvo to our home 97 miles from the dealership, without any cost or even thinking about it. From the moment we spoke with Angela Mendez our sales rep, the staff was friendly, professional, and incredibly helpful. I will not give a negative experience to any named car dealership ,but I will tell you it was not pleasant. My wife, a professional businessperson called four Austin local dealerships all asking for the same checklist and a price on different luxury cars she was interested. She made it clear - this was the check list; this was the financing she was looking for – she was not browsing – she wanted to make a deal and drive away today – no 4 hours wasted in a dealership. Four hours and 45 minutes later on the phone she was very frustrated and asked if I would just take over. After 30 minutes of talking with the four local dealerships, I knew it was a waste of time. Everyone wanted to "win our business", but everyone wanted a bait and switch.
Example: 1) Yes, I can get you that price – oh but do you want tires also? 2) Yes, we have that, but the steering wheel is extra. 3) Yes you will be getting all these rebates but not for any car you want. I know it may be somewhat of an exaggeration but not by much. Fast-forward we called Principle Volvo Cars San Antonio (100 miles away). We spoke with Angela Mendez for 20 minutes and reviewed our checklist and she said give her 30 minutes and she would get back to us. 15 minutes later we received a 2 1/2-minute personal video of the Volvo that matches our checklist on the lot – the video covers every detail, engine, exterior, interior, trunk, and even the glove compartment. A few minutes later the sales manager called us and asked us if that was the car we wanted. There was no pressure or pushy sales tactics, just genuine advice and a review of the price/financing. 20 minutes later we reached an agreement, a process that was straight forward and stress-free with exceptional customer service.
Angela drove the new Volvo to our home, spent 15 minutes reviewing all the features, and programmed my wife's cell to the Bluetooth and vehicle information system. My wife is VERY HAPPY. Read moreDon’t leave the lot. I bought my first Volvo from Principle, it was a CPO vehicle. I was so excited! But, thank god my husband and I did our own full visual inspection because they tried to get away with selling me the car with: a chip in the windshield, dirty interior, missing tray insert on one of the interior spots, a tire that had been patched, the tires were bald, and the lift gate for the trunk was damaged.
The reason I say “don’t leave the lot” is because even if you have it all in writing that these things will be fixed, they will still swindle you. I brought my car back in (1.5hrs to San Antonio) for all of these issues to be fixed and only the tires were replaced. Our agreement was that I would have my car serviced to fix all of the issues. On top of that, they left me with an empty gas tank which I was told they would fill “for my trouble”.
Since then, the GM told us an amount they would send via check to “help out”. That was almost 2 months ago and he has dodged emails and phone calls ever since. The windshield replacement (which should have been covered by them because they tried to sell me the car WITH A CHIP IN THE WINDSHIELD) is costing almost $2k.
So, don’t leave the lot. They will never own up to their promises and treat their customers terribly.
Now, there was ONE good part about Principle Volvo San Antonio and that was Kris M, our sales person. He made the experience enjoyable, worked with me virtually to discuss payments and in person the next day to finish the process. He spent time showing me all the fun features of my car, getting me set up with the app and ensuring he “comes with the car” if I had any questions after I left the dealership. 10/19/22 I took my S40 to Principle Volvo for an oil change and general inspection. I enjoyed watching the video of my car during the multi-point inspection. Impressive! I now know how to plan and budget for those items that need repair. I was most impressed by the Service personnel, David Collins. He made sure that my requests were honored in a kind and respectful manner. When asked, he gave me good advice regarding the future needs of my car. He was a five star guy!! After almost twenty years, I bought another Volvo earlier this month. I purchased the car from the dealership. I want everyone to know that I had the absolute best experience that I have ever had. Billy and Emilio were superb!! They were kind, efficient, knowledgeable, and respectful. Actually, all of the professionals in the Sales Department were great people. My new car has many new features for which I am unfamiliar. Emilio and Billy offered to help me learn how to enjoy all of these new features.
