I came to San Antonio for business and was staying for two nights over the weekend. I stayed at this Crowne Plaza particularly because it is less than 7 minutes away from the airport. Once I arrived the outside of the building look like a standard Crowne Plaza just like anywhere else. I noticed Once I arrived inside of the hotel, the lobby is very nice and updated. The customer service is impeccable. Carla was at this particular location very kind and accommodating. She explained to me that the hotel has come a long way that in previous years it had not been as nicely renovated and they were still going through some renovations. Once I got my room on the 5th floor I went up to my room to get settled I immediately looked around the room to check for the normal issues making sure everything was clean and copesthetic.
Nonetheless I went into the bathroom and noticed that inside of the bathroom the bathtub was very nasty, it had grit and grime in it as if it had not been cleaned very well or the scum had set on the floor a little bit too long and, created that dirt that is hard to remove and it just kind of stains the tub. At first, I thought I would be able to handle it, and stay but I called down to request another room. Carla happened to answer the phone she was so understanding and calm and said she will bring my key up to me, for a room change. Once she came up to my room she said, and we would like to treat you to breakfast in the morning, also you may get something out of the market fresh area so that you can have a good night with maybe a snack and a drink or something of that nature. I was so happy and shocked at the same time at her act of kindness. She definitely went above and beyond with her customer service.
The rooms are renovated however some of the rooms renovation was a quick process because you can tell with some of the paint and the sealant that it's peeling off or coming off in some locations. The furniture is nice they have nice modern upgraded Furniture the beds have an upgraded look as well, and you can see and tell that they really are trying to improve the look of the hotel all together, internally.
I did notice some paint chipping in some areas, and in this new room that I received it is cleaner than the initial room, however the bathroom had some balls of hair in the corner, and near the toilet so I clean that up with some toilet paper. I am hair phobic that is a complete turn off but I was not moving my room again because I'm exhausted from traveling and it was already almost 10:00 p.m. at night. They do have the out-of-date temperature units for heating and cooling, with the renovation I don't believe they chose to update the thermostat in the furnace they still have the time that sticks out of the wall. Once you get off the elevator the hallways or wide plenty of space, the furniture in the hallway area is modern, however you have walls that are chipped and with paint or bumped so much they've got permanent grooves in them so it kind of looks real different. So there's some minor things that they need to work on here at this hotel bottom line,
I probably wouldn't stay here again unless I had to for the convenience of the the airport being less than 10 minutes away. So it definitely would be a first or second choice. Plus the customer service, that Carla gave, spoke volumes and that is great when you're needing to have a smooth check-in process and a good evening and good night's rest.
On the other hand, if I was staying for a long period of time I would definitely choose another hotel. But if you're just coming in for a night or two this would be a decent place for you to stay, to get through those two or three days that's it. I don't think this hotel is meant for a long stay at all. Most of the crown plazas all look alike so you not kind of know what the expectation is most of them are older but kudos to the ones who are actually trying to renovate and make them better. Just don't use cheap Renovations...

Perhaps instead invest in security cameras as well as a security guard. ||||Check-In - No baggage carts available. Advised by clerk to walk the floors in search of one. Suffice to say two return trips for my wife and I to retrieve our belongings over the period of 45mins. And still no sign of said baggage carts. On checkin, one of our two children went up to get some complimentary ice water, empty - only ice and unable to dispense a single drop. Still the same 45mins later. Wasn’t greeted as a Gold Elite member either. Slow process as the clerk scrutinised my drivers license at checkin.||||Up to the room. Hallway carpets are stained. Don’t think the franchise owners know a rug doctor can be rented from Walmart. Door number is missing from our room, by process of elimination we identified our room. Rode the left hand side elevator to the fifth floor, was hit or miss if we would get out at the right floor as button doesn’t light up. Daughter is perplexed how and why people carve their names and scratch up the doors inside the elevator.||||My wife and I bathe our children, only to find two towels in the room. We booked the room for four people, I called downstairs by phone to ask for towels to be brought to our room. Was rudely advised to come and collect them as there is no staff to bring them up, front desk cannot be left unattended, I politely refused, advising I booked the room for 4 people, clerk hung up on me. Popped down stairs to collect said towels and about turned as 4 families were awaiting to be checked in - back up to our room where I washed my hands only to find a 3c grub screw is missing from the sink faucet handle (faucet handle is unattached!) as well as a massive crack in the sink, will be sure to give them 3c to purchase said screw, as for the sink, that is on them!||||As per downstairs, my son and I checked out the pool, there was a family party going on, with one of their friends opening the side door to let in non guests to join them, safety and security at the utmost!||||Breakfast? What breakfast. After standing around at a dirty table does a person after 5minutes appear to clear the table (it is a pity she couldnt clean the seats which feel and look although a family prior has soiled themselves on them), pours us a coffee each, oh and for me to ask for some hot coffee, the coffee was cold! No food left at 845am. I had to settle for a yogurt and banana, rest of the family had yogurt by itself. Not until 930am does more food appear, deposited (dumped in a lacklustre manner) by a person who is wearing his AirPods. Glance around the room, staff are also playing about with their phones. ||||Oh and I mentioned a rug doctor, well right in the midst of breakfast being served in a room with a lack of tables, someone is cleaning the whole carpet, blocking off any available seating if one wanted to have a coffee and take in the news or ambience! ||||After breakfast we had the magical merry-go-round of the elevator, it took us to 6 then 7 then back to 5!! Oh and we pressed 5!!||||At the time of writing this, my wife has just returned to advise there is no ice in the ice machine on our floor, for the fact it is switched off!!||||We have stayed in Crowne Plaza hotels worldwide and this one by far doesn’t meet the IHG standard and should have its franchise license revoked. Suffice to say, we will...
Read moreI stayed for 8 days with my kids. On arrival 3:40pm when I approached the front desk I was greeted by an older lady, when I tried to get checked I was told my room was not ready (45 min after my check in time) I was told to give them 30-40 min because the rooms were being cleaned. After waiting for 45 min I came back in to see if my room was available ( kids still in the car waiting) when I walked in I noticed the people checking in had the same room I booked. I told the same lady at the front desk that if a room was available why I was not notified. She told me it was 1st come 1st serve (this made me very upset) I told her I was here before all those people waiting like she told me and that I needed my room NOW not later. She called housekeeping to see if there was another room, which there was and I was checked in. The room was some what clean. The bathroom had a line of mold that some one tried to cover or clean, there was a ton of patches on the wall. The room was not vacuumed, the fridge door was broken and one of the lamps did not work. After my 3rd day we tried to go to the pool which we couldn't use, the water was green and moldy, there was also a cable and light hanging out in the water. The room did not get vacuumed again only 1 shower towel was left for a double room (4 guest). I called front desk to let them know all the issues we were having and she apologized and sent the maid to vacuum and bring towels. Within 5 minutes the maid arrived out of breathe to bring towels and vacuum, she looked very intimidated and apologetic. Once she came in I tried to explain the issue and she kept saying sorry sorry, that's when I realized she didn't speak English! Once I started talking to her in Spanish she told me the front desk told her I was furious screaming and demanding service ( not true at all) and that she really messed up the room. I explained to her that was not the true and that I only needed vacuum and towels. On my 5 day I called front desk again because my room was not cleaned it was 3:30pm that in 30 minutes she could come and clean because we were leaving again. Within minutes a maid came upstairs same scenario very apologetic and telling me she was sorry. I spoke to her in Spanish and she told me she was in her lunch at 3:20pm and that I was very upset because she did not clean my room, AGAIN I explained that never happened. As she was cleaning the room I started talking to her only to find out she was running behind because the hotel was at full capacity and needed to get the rooms that were checking in 1st. That day I noticed her room log on top of her cart and she had over 16 rooms to clean. I worked in the hospitality industry in Las Vegas NV in a 5 star hotel, I know how hard 16 rooms are to clean specially check outs. These maids are over worked and abused by the staff in the front desk. They are not able to communicate with the guest because they don't speak English. No wonder the rooms are the way they are. On my 7th night I notice the same maids that were cleaning at 9:00 am when we left were still cleaning rooms at 7:00pm exhausted. To management take care of your staff specially the maids always over worked, talked to like the work they do is not important. Remember with out the cleaning staff the hotel would not be a hotel. Now with out front desk business would...
