The food at this establishment is so fresh and tasty. I'm vegetarian and have jumped head first into other Thai/Asian restaurants and was left disappointed, so I did a little research beforehand. I'm vegetarian and started with the lovers combo appetizer to get a taste for some classics (spring rolls, cheese puffs ((basically rangoons rolled up) and fried shrimp which had a coconut breading that my Korean boyfriend found surprisingly tasty), the sweet chili sauce was unique and tasty which proved this kitchen uses fresh and original recipes. I ordered the Pa Nang vegetarian with extra rice and tofu, my S.O. had the same entree with shrimp and tofu. Mine was American level spice, his Thai. These dishes were robust and filling! I was worried I would get a frozen bag, soggy vegetable medley but that's not at all what was presented; Everything from the bamboo shoots to the bell peppers had that nice, fresh crunch to it. I'm pregnant and the American level spice was perfect for me! My boyfriend agreed his Thai level would have been too spicy for me, but was very satisfied and concluded any more heat and it would've been too spicy for even him. Additionally, the tofu was NOT fried which I appreciate SO much!! Lastly, if you can't finish your meal they bring it to the back to box which adds a quirky, fine-dining touch to an otherwise small business feel. I would highly...
Read moreThere's only one thing I don't like about Bangkok54 and that is fact that it's closed between 2pm and 5pm😒. Not saying that should change! As a daytime server at another nearby restaurant, it's so rare to see businesses structure their time so that all staff (who know firsthand how physically demanding restaurant work is) has opportunities for rest, nourishment, bonding, or personal affairs, while the restaurant has time to put on its evening attire. Rarer still are my chances that I can pick up dinner to go on the way home since I rarely work past 5 and never get off before 2. But when our schedules DO coincide, my mind is on their amazing laarb gai, tiger cry/weeping tiger salad, and papay salad , level4 spice, some steamed jasmine rice and pad wun sen. My slightly less adventurous husband will want either pad thai or massuman chicken curry, but definitely the chicken satay as a starter. But regardless of whatever else I get, no way I'm walking out without a...
Read moreIt was my first time eating here, portions were good, prices were fair, a bit high for lunch specials. But, the main reason for my 3 star review was flavor.
We started our meal with the pork shumai. They had a little bit of an off flavor, both myself and my friend noticed it. Then I had my drunken noodles with beef and my friend had beef pad thai. Again both of us noticed an off flavor.
Both of us commented that as we ate, the flavor of whatever it disappeared, but I did taste something almost like liquid soap in a few of my bites. Its fair to mention we arrived right after opening.
The portions were large, and I left completely full. The sauce for the shumai and for the pot stickers was great. The pot stickers had awesome flavor and were crispy. Service was good, food came out decently quick, and the restaurant inside is decorated nicely.
As a first experience, I was disappointed. Had the odd flavor not been there, it would have been a 5...
