As a visitor to San Diego, I had the opportunity to tour the Naval Base San Diego, one of the largest and most important military installations on the West Coast. I must say that I left with a renewed sense of pride and appreciation for the men and women who serve our country.

The base itself is vast and well-maintained, showcasing the efficiency and organization that our military is known for. While certain areas are understandably restricted due to security reasons, the guided tour provided an informative and fascinating glimpse into the daily operations of the base. It was truly awe-inspiring to see the massive ships up close and learn about the various missions and training exercises that take place there.

One of the highlights of my visit was the Navy Exchange (NEX), which is essentially a shopping center for military personnel and their families. It was impressive to see the wide range of products and services available, from clothing and electronics to food and personal care items. The NEX also featured a food court, where I enjoyed a delicious and affordable meal.

The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that, as a civilian visitor, navigating the base can be a bit confusing and access to certain areas may be limited. However, this is understandable given the nature of the facility.

In conclusion, I would highly recommend taking the opportunity to visit Naval Base San Diego if you have the chance. The experience provides a unique and humbling perspective on the dedication and sacrifices made by our military personnel. Definitely the best base on the west coast. After going between Point Loma, Pendleton, Balboa, Miramar and Coronado I can say that it’s the best base for many reasons. One, the NEX locations are pretty good, but what sticks out is how many there are. Having one on dry side, wet side and then a separate area for a mall styled NEX with food court makes shopping easy, efficient and never feels overcrowded. Even at 5 when everybody is basically off work, there is still something for everyone.

My only complaint about this base is the long distance from the pier 13 area and parking. Parking is sometimes maxed out for over half a mile when some ships are in and honestly this place needs a parking garage or something to mitigate the issue. Every base suffers from parking to an extent, but I’m going to write this off as the worst one when you end up in the farther piers. At least if you are close to pier 3 parking on dry side is possible with a bit of a walk from your car.

In the end I write it as a 5 star only for the fact that it has a great amount of amenities with shopping, movie theatre, food and training buildings all really close...
