San Diego Scuba Guide — Local services in San Diego

After reading so many glowing reviews for Davor, I decided to go with San Diego Scuba Guide and I was not disappointed! I am a beginner diver, and really want to practice my shore dives. Turns out the day was a little finicky, and Davor ever so patiently walked me through the whole process and gave me all of the assistance I needed. He was really good at evaluating what a good pace would be for me and took me on a great dive. The visibility was not great that day, but I never had to struggle to keep up with him to keep him in sight. When the dive was over, he took the time to give me a thorough debrief. He could see that I am a very enthusiastic to learn, so he gave me so many excellent tips! To be clear, this was not a lesson, but a guided dive, so the extra education was a giant bonus for me. He helped me with suggestions on how to better set up my kit (I have a ScubaPro Hydros, which I LOVE, but it has no pockets, so I have been clumsy with deciding where to attach things), very sensible suggestions on how to better distribute the weights I am carrying without resorting to adding more weight, tips on refining my buoyancy, and how to adjust my BCD to fix my trim. It was a goldmine of information, and I can't thank him enough for just how much time he was willing to spend helping me to become a better diver. This is not a big company. It's Davor a few of his people, as far as I can tell. As someone who also runs a tiny business, I get that this means the people involved really care about seeing the business succeed. Update: Several points are untrue from the response to my post. I was not given the opportunity to cancel free of charge. The conditions were not unsafe at La Jolla Cove. Before we left several other guides spoke to Davor about how nice the conditions looked and took groups of open water divers. Finally, I understand the practice of turning away divers for safety reasons, but I believe the company should collect info on a diver's last dive and experience BEFORE agreeing to take them and having them travel to the dive site. Many companies have google forms.

Original review: Davor is definitely knowledgeable but he turned away a client based on his experience level and date of last dive on the spot after the client arrived (stranger in my group). Money was refunded but this information is easy to collect ahead of time so you don't waste people's time and money (travel to site).

Additionally, he highly encouraged us to dive at la jolla shores instead of la jolla cove (after scoping the cove), because of a more "difficult" entry despite that it ended up only being myself and him diving, I am rescue dive certified, and as we left all other guides said how great it looked. I paid to dive on a kelp forest with a chance of seeing sea lions. The shores is not this. He presented the sites as though we would see similar life and after diving the shores this was clearly not the case. We spent about half our dive over sand flats and the rest along a sand stone shelf with little benthic cover and life. We are from PA and I was nervous because my son is younger, we are not familiar with ocean diving and our last freshwater dives left us feeling less than confident.
