I just joined today after trying the gym a few times during the past 2.5 weeks. Most of the front desk staff I have dealt with were absolutely phenomenal, incredibly helpful, and informative. Salde, whom I believe is the manager, was beyond great and went above and beyond, especially with answering my questions and explaining the various membership levels before I joined. I'm disabled and use a powerchair, so picking a gym is a little more difficult and nuanced for me. It was because of the excellent staff that I chose to join despite a few misgivings.
The gym area itself seems good, great mix of equipment and decent flow, it is a little cramped and always crowded. There's a great mix of all types of people and physical abilities, which is something I always prefer in a gym. Unfortunately I cannot use anything but the pool because of my physical disabilities.
I knew this location was one of the busiest in the city, yet that did not prepare me for the numerous issues with the pool and "wet area". There are only two lanes. The swim school takes up most of the day there. Unfortunately, during the times that most people would typically use the pool. Although, I knew that going in. The worst part is, there is no staff nor lifeguard! No members or staff put the pool noodles or water weights away, and those along with everyone's flip-flops are strew all around the pool, making it incredibly dangerous to navigate in a wheelchair with the already narrow walkways, or when I come out of the pool and transfer back into my powerchair. I knew there was no lifeguard, I did not know that the whole area would be seemingly neglected. The entire area is dingy. There are several drains that are slow or not draining at all, which I found out today have been like that for months. The pool water was warm my first day there, but has gotten colder each time. I thought it was my body, as I have nerve damage and can only work out in warm pools. I found out from another member today that the pool will very greatly in temperature during the year. This part is not on management; however, few people seem to follow gym etiquette, or wait their turn like I do. The four times I have gone, there are seven people in the lane I am in, and two or three in the other lane, which appears to be the "fast lane" I discovered today after someone slammed their head into me when I was crammed in the corner of the pool trying to get my steps in out of the way because there was absolutely no room for me to do my water walking. There are a few posted rules for the pool, which people also do not follow. There's a sign saying 33 people are allowed in the pool. Which might be the safety maximum, yet there is no way that many people can work out effectively. The women's locker room is always very cold, which means I have to not shower and come straight home. Totally not a dealbreaker, as my body has difficulty regulating temperature and I live in the neighborhood. Until today, when it was extremely cold and made it difficult for me to dry off, get dressed and head home. Incidentally, there are also no disabled friendly lockers or changing area. There is a small row of lockers that are the right height, but they are seemingly not for member use. And, require a key or code. Once again, I knew this before deciding to join.
I also discovered today that this is only the busiest gym/pool since the closure of the Stonestown location. As I'm new to 24 Hour Fitness, I have no idea how long ago that was. It seems that upper management has not adjusted to the change. And, numerous members are upset about the British Swim School getting precedence and precluding their pool workouts. This gym has so much potential, even with the small pool and so many members. There's a great vibe there, which I believe starts with the wonderful staff. It seems unfortunate that budget constraints seem to be affecting the cleanliness, functionality, and...

I just cancelled my membership because of this gym. Here are some reasons why and areas of improvement I have observed in the past year and a half. The Wi-Fi is spotty at best. It's something that were paying for and doesn't work. The gym is underground and cell reception doesn't work, which makes it so you can't login to the app, listen to any streaming music services or access any of your gym information. The cleanliness is appalling. The men's locker room smells bad, the faucets are boiling hot or don't work. The air vents don't work and neither does the scale. The equipment is the worst part of the gym. Half of it is broken, not working properly or simply unsafe. It is all very unclean to the point I have skipped an exercise for the lack of sanitation. Cables have snapped on cable weight machines, treadmills are out of service, dumbbells are all out of order, separated, miss matched or simply missing. The state of the equipment is in disarray. You have newer, old and very old equipment all together making it very confusing to a customer base to know what does what. The layout of the equipment has no rhyme or reason, causing customers to walk all over the gym for different amenities. There isn’t a dedicated stretching area for patrons. Last thing I will say is that the staff is either very lazy or nonexistent. I see them either sitting at the front desk not looking up from their phone just letting anyone in or not there entirely. Regarding their attentiveness, I haven’t EVER seen them walking around either putting equipment back, helping someone, cleaning or enforcing rules of any kind. Some good things about the gym are the amount of treadmills and cardio equipment. It is always in high demand at other gyms and I never have trouble getting a machine. The basketball court is very nice and is a very nice amenity to have here in San Francisco.

Read moreThis gym is a disaster. This is my local gym and I really want to like this location given there aren't gym options within 2-3 mile radius, however, this is my second time joining and cancelling in the last 4 years. I re-joined in December 2024 with hopes of improvement in the below areas, however, it actually seems like things have gotten worse.
I mostly use the dumbbell, squat rack, and cable section in the back. In the dumbbell section, basically all the weights are out of order and there are many weights missing, placed in the wrong order on the rack, or scattered across the floor. There is probably a lack of care and attention from the staff, as this problem would probably require a staff member to organize the weights maybe once every few hours to at least show gym members there is an order to follow along with. Even for the sake of showing gym members that if you don't put the weights back, you will make a staff member go through the unnecessary effort.
Unless you are going before 7am or after 7pm, you will also struggle to find a bench. Between the weights missing or in the wrong spot, it becomes difficult to execute a workout without compromising on the equipment to some degree.
Cable equipment is often broken or not working properly, and sometimes not even marked properly.
Generally speaking, the equipment and weights are grimy.
Frankly, I think the lack of organization, broken equipment, and general uncleanliness would justify a $20 / month price tag. However, if you opt into monthly and don't want to commit for a 2yr time frame (which I would recommend against), you will pay multiples of that.
Writing this review to point out to 24 Hour management that things need to change, as I'm not the only one realizing there is a downward trend in the quality of...
