I normally never leave negative reviews. In fact it may be my first, ever. My son and I purchased tickets at the booth at Hyde and Beach St. The lady at the booth was cold as ice and not friendly whatsoever. I understand dealing with the public is stressful and it’s a lot of work however she was rude. We got in line and waited over an hour. Meanwhile the cable car staff who worked on the cars were goofing off and acting unprofessional. We finally make it into the cable car. My son had went around to the other side to enter the car so he could be on the exterior section. I was sandwiched in the middle and couldn’t exit to be near him, he is underage. So I cross the middle interior wooden seat in the middle. Out of the left the cable car conductor starts screaming and is red faced saying “what are you doing?!?! You can’t do that that and he puts his hands on my jacket in an aggressive way. It was startling and I didn’t even know what was happening in the moment. There were no signs indicating you could not cross over the wooden interior seats. I may have been in the wrong by crossing over the seat but how he handled it was incredibly aggressive and plain wrong. A simple “sir, please go around” would have sufficed. He then told me to get off and go around (?). But there was no where to go as I was already next to the car and the line stretched back over 100 yards. Was he expecting me to start from the beginning? It was so startling we got up and left the cable car and didn’t continue the ride. He was very rude and aggressive and placing his hands on me was way out of line. I hope this sees management and is handled. Again I may have messed up crossing over the seat but it was an honest mistake. I would not suggest the train cable car at Hyde and Beach (Fisherman Wharf next door to Ghirardelli ) This happened at around 12:30 PST on 12/31/23. I would not suggest taking the cable...
Read moreWhen I was researching things to do in San Francisco, I read a blog that said to skip the Cable Cars. I am SO glad I didn't because I had so much fun.
I was a little confused at first on how to get a pass, but it ended up being really easy. I downloaded the MuniMobile app and purchased a day pass through there.
I thought it would be hard/awkward to flag down the Cable Car for the first time at the stop in front of the Westin hotel, but the driver was so nice and spotted me and waved me on pretty quickly.
Seeing the city from the cable car is so fun and the ride really does feel like a less intense roller coaster. The twists and turns on the street are so fun.
On my return trip there was a great group of young guys that were just having a blast and waving at everyone we passed. I also got to sit next to a famous cat which was funny.
You don't want to miss this experience when visiting...
Read moreI've seen many negative reviews for the San Francisco Cable Cars, so I thought I'd chime in. This is in particular in reference to the service we received during our week while on vacation at the Hyde & Beach Street Station at Fisherman's Wharf. We are in our late 60's, and after walking all day (1 and one-half miles from our hotel to the Wharf) then doing various attractions all day, we were ready to relax and have a ride back to the hotel. Well, 3 blocks away from the hotel! Did we ever have to wait for the Cable Car? Yeah. Did it seem to make endless stops to pick up and drop off? Yeah. Were people sometimes complaining about this? Yeah. But, not us. Always courteous staff, and the $8.00 fare was worth it. So, do your research, see how close the Cable Car runs to your hotel you're visiting, and enjoy. We sure did. And by the way ... as of April 2022, masks are no...
