I was very impressed with the quality of this hotel. The lobby is nice and you are checked in immediately. The staff is amazing, very welcoming. It is a very clean hotel and it has nice lighting and places to sit and work or relax with free coffee and iced water. There are also snack machines with regular and healthy choices. The gym is great! It had machines like treadmills , and had free weights also places for yoga or exercise with equipment like a giant ball, etc. It has fresh towels, filtered water and does have TV. The elevators run quickly and smoothly, and all the halls are clean . The rooms are clean with excellent beds, WIFI works well and TV had a great choice of channels. The curtains have a choice of blackout or sheer. The refrigerator is a bit larger than other hotels and works well. There are a lot of sockets for electronics. The bathroom lighting is great for makeup . It is super clean and comes with Dove’s hand wash, body lotion, shampoo, conditioner and body wash. There is a hair blower. It also has tissue paper besides the toilet paper. I liked the large mirror it had outside the bathroom. Really, it was one of the best rooms I have stayed in considering it was standard. What would I change ? Well, the breakfast was a bit sugary for me. The yoghurts are not the cheap type, but I would have liked a choice of plain. Also, some fruits to go with it like fresh berries. For the bages I would add a whole wheat choice. The eggs and sausages I wouldn’t change or the breakfast potatoes, but maybe bacon once in a while. The pancake recipe was the only thing that was disappointing. The batter tasted like a Bao bun without the meat or a Mochi dessert without the gel. Is this a San Francisco thing? They were also white. Idk. Weird. But, they did have oatmeal and the have a coffee dispenser, though I still preferred the coffee in the lobby lounge area. They also have a juice machine. Overall, it was a great experience, and it was more than I expected. I stayed 5 nights 5 days. I am glad I became...
Read moreWe planned an impromptu trip to San Francisco and were very happy with the nightly rate for the HI Express Fisherman’s Wharf. As soon as we arrived, the valet treated us like we were old friends. As we approached the front desk to check-in we were once again greeted as we were old friends.
Our room was the very last one at the hotel, #489, and was immaculate. The bed & pillows were very comfortable. The bathroom was also immaculate and stocked with all Dove products - hand soap, hand lotion, body wash, shampoo & conditioner. The room included a mini fridge which was perfect for the items we brought with us to nosh on at the end of the day.
This hotel is 2 blocks from Fisherman’s Wharf and suitable walking distance to Ghirardelli Square and Pier 39. We were given discount cards for 5 restaurants at Pier 39 which we utilized each night during our stay.
It was so nice to have breakfast available to us each morning. These items included hot cinnamon rolls, muffins, bread, butter and jelly for toast, Bagels and cream cheese, 3 cereal choices, 2 milk choices, yogurts & fruit, a pancake machine and endless coffee with flavored creamers and half & half. I say endless because once the breakfast area closed at 9:30 each day, coffee and ice water were available all day in the seating area in the lobby.
If your travels take you to the Bay Area and you want a centrally located hotel, I recommend the Holiday Inn Express Fisherman’s Wharf!
PS - avoid the turkey bacon at breakfast.
PSS - when you turn the TV on and it comtinually turns off and comes back on, unplug the cord from the back of the TV. We did this on our last night after we complained to front desk about the tv. It was suggested that it could be a sleep timer but they’d send someone to look at it. Not sure if they did because we continued to have trouble every night (and no it wasn’t the sleep timer on the TV, it was off). The unplugging idea came after a google search and after that we had no problems (tv...
Read morePros: The hotel’s location is convenient to many restaurants, tourist sights and attractions and the area felt very safe to us. Our room was very clean and the breakfast had a wide variety of hot food options and was quite impressive. The valet parking was convenient and easy.||Cons: The check-in process did not go well and left a very bad first impression with us. To start, the (2) Queen bed Bay View room type that we had purchased was not available upon arrival - we were told that this was due to the hotel being overbooked (i.e., they are ensuring that their hotel is always full from a revenue perspective…even if it impacts their customer’s experience). I could more easily see this being done to a customer who was only staying for 1 night…however, we were staying for 4 nights. We ended up with a room without a bay view and of a different room type. We were told that the new room was the same price…but, in the end, the (2) Queen beds and bay view combination was most important to us and why we booked this hotel.||Next, we were given keys that did not unlock our door. We returned them, and the next set didn’t work either. Finally, they had to call engineering to fix / replace the batteries in the electronic lock. By the time we got our “final” room and had keys that worked, we had made 4 trips with all of our luggage back and forth between the front desk and various rooms of the hotel. Finally, I asked if we could be monetarily “comped” at least “something” for this experience and I was told “no” several times. Finally, they agreed to waive the $25/night guest amenity fee that is typically charged upon arrival. And, while the (reluctantly-given) waived fee was appreciated, after a 10-hr drive this check-in experience left us tired, frustrated and without the “bay view” (2) Queen bed room type we had purchased and...
