Melissa Kwon, M.D. — Local services in San Francisco

I visited Dr. Kwon’s office at 1100 Van Ness on Sep 3rd for an annual physical, which should have been fully covered by my insurance. However, I was surprised to receive two separate bills at $1.1k not classified as preventive care, including one for standard lab work that has always been covered in my past visits elsewhere.

During the appointment, Dr. Kwon asked if I’d noticed any changes in my health(which is a very common question i got in my past physicals). I briefly mentioned some weight gain and occasional nausea - yet this was billed as a separate office visit for just that brief exchange. The lab results were also never reviewed with me by the doctor.

It has been nearly impossible to get clarification. Multiple messages through My Health Online were redirected to associates, and calls to Sutter provided only vague answers, leaving me with no way to resolve what appears to be a billing mistake. For over ten years with UCSF and PAMF, I was never personally charged for preventive care, making this experience feel both unfair and unacceptable.

Want a doctor with all the concern of a burnt out DMV worker just punching the clock? Dr. Kwon is just that doctor. She clearly only got into the field for the title and the income because she clearly does not like people. She is an absolute waste of a human being.

In my 2 appointments with her, she never even got off her stool to come within 6 feet of me. She simply didn't care and clearly did not want to even be there. Both times, I presented with clear, persistent indicators of a now-diagnosed autoimmune disorder. Both times, she dismissed them and told me just to ice my painful joints and try a cream for the other symptoms.

Her apathy was further exemplified when, at the 15-minute mark, she simply stood up and walked out of the room without even a parting word or shred of concern, and then walked away. Totally classless.

I am so glad I found another doctor. But I am still angry that I wasted 8 months when I could have been getting...

Dr. Kwon is, without a doubt, one of the finest family physicians I have ever had the privilege of working with. Her exceptional care extends to my daughter as well, and our experiences with her have been nothing short of extraordinary.
