I went to have my cat euthanized die to a lifelong sickness/disease that was incurable, and she suffered so much. Missing patches of fur on her head and face, bloody scratches on her face, neck and head. She had long term treatment, but none of it worked. I took her to the shelter to have her euthanized for $20 but they refused to do it, so I took her to a veterinarian clinic where I paid $125 to have it done. Now the San Jose Shelter on Monterey road put me on their "Do not allow to adopt" from their shelter list. So now I can't adopt from their shelter all because the manager disagreed with my decision to put my cat to rest. she expected me to do life long treatment for my cat. Going in 3x a week, getting ears cleaned, shot in the head, every time , having temporary relief was not enjoyable for my cat. She was suffering still, and nothing helped. They even did a skin scraping and couldn't find out what exactly was wrong with her. She suffered for two years before I made the final decision to put her to rest and not let her suffer any further. Yea so this shelter staff here are pretty nice in general. The manager who dealt with me personally took my personal decision to put my cat down, personally and now she won't take me off the list of do not allow to adopt from us ever. for as long as I live I can never adopt a homeless animal from them.
The thing is my cat was rescued by me, and I had assistance from a cat rescue in the beginning when she was first rescued. She would have been 3 years old today. It's just devastating to know how this manager runs this shelter. She is ignorant, and ridiculous in her decision making with everything. She takes everything personally. literally she thinks I am a horrible pet owner and I shouldn't own any pets.
This lady should be fired from her job. To make such a decision just because she disagreed with my decision as a parent/pet owner to put my cat to rest and end her suffering. 1 yr ago my dog ended up at the shelter. I went to go pick up my dog immediatley. The lady at the front desk wanted to charge me reclaiming fees, but my dog was put in the front kennels up for adoption. The issue is that she had been there for 5 days only, and did not even put her in quarantine to allow up to the allowed 30 days for owner to come reclaim their pet. They spayed her with out notifying me which was dreadful. I did not want that to happen. None the less, I was glad she was okay. Of course I still went to go get her. The lady at the front desk wanted to charge me reclaiming fees and such. I said "My dog is in the front kennel up for adoption. You didn't even allow for me to reclaim her. Your having the sale -dog adoptions for $20 right now. " Her boss which was a different manager at that time forced this lady to run this as an adoption to me so I didn't have to pay unnecessary reclaiming fees. Yet even after her boss told her what to do, she began arguing because she wanted to charge me $400 in reclaim fees. Her boss got a angry and just said "Just do what I told you to do!" and reluctantly she did end up processing the paper work as a regular $20 adoption fee. The front desk lady just wanted to make a profit and not do that right thing for my sake and my dogs sake.
My dog had such aggression issues with other dogs at that time. She attacked other dogs. Yet they put my dog in the front adoption kennel up for adoption without even allowing the 30 maximum time by law given for owners to come reclaim their pet(s). This is what upsets me the most out of everything. By law they are suppose to give 30 days for owner to come reclaim their dog or cat. This is what they did to me and my dog. What if my dog had been adopted to someone? There would have been nothing I could do about it. I might have sued the shelter because I have all her paper work from her veterinarian since day one when I rescued her at 3 months old. JUST THANK GOD I GOT MY GIRL BACK. I DNO WHAT THE F I WOULD HAVE DONE WITH OUT HER IN MY LIFE. This shelter is the worst...
Read moreWe went in yesterday to look at rabbits. The front desk clerks where not very helpful or nice, but they were not awful either. We waited almost two hours (I had my 5yo and my 3yo with me) for our turn but I didn’t mind because it’d be worth it, right? Well, not really. The “expert” (who didn’t even know how to properly handle a rabbit) was ok the first two minutes of our interaction, then I mentioned I had talked to the Manager about how we were not 100% ready to take the rabbit home that instant (I had already asked her if it was still okay for us to do all the paperwork and go through all the process so we could meet and hopefully find a furry friend that feels comfortable around us; she, the manager, said it was completely fine so we did everything the way we were supposed to, and we but we’d be back that day or the next day, I only got to tell her “we are not ready right now...” and she didn’t even let me finish. She literally took the bunny out of my daughter’s arms, shoved her in a box and said OK, BYE. My son was crying, my daughter was speechless and I was so upset! I tried to approach the lady again and tell her we had questions and we had waited almost two hours but she just said “There’s SERIOUS people waiting. BYE.” I mean, do you think I was playing games? Yeah, I waited those two hours with two toddlers while my baby was with my In-laws because I love to waste my time... I get there we’re other people waiting but first, we didn’t skip steps, we were there with the same purpose as everyone else. Second, there’s a POLITE and PROFESSIONAL way to do and say things. Third, you said it yourself, lady; not many people adopt rabbits and your attitude could have cost that sweet fur baby her for-ever home. The only positive part of our experience (besides meeting that cute little ball of fur and energy) and the reason why we are going back there is how the manager handled the situation; she approached me when she saw my children crying and apologized multiple times, she seemed genuinely concerned and she helped me get some extra information before O left. I didn’t catch her name, and i don’t even know if “Manager “ is the proper term to use, but she was really sweet and thoughtful and I am very thankful there’s people like her in this...
Read moreToday I encountered two ladies at the front of this place who had ZERO COMPASSION FOR ANIMALS.
I AM APPALLED PEOPLE LIKE THEM CAN WORK HERE.
My dad is a contractor and he was working on renovating a clients house in San Jose. While clearing out stuff he found a litter of 4 kittens in the bushes in the yard. He didn't see any Mom around for the past two days and so he asked me to see if any animal shelters can come take them. They would be pouring cement in the backyard and didn't want them near any of the cement while it was drying.
So I called San Jose Animal Care Center because this clients home was in San Jose and it was the closest shelter. I explained the situation and the person over the phone said sure no problem trap them and bring them in. They didn't specify that they were only accepting sick kittens either.
So I trapped them Saturday morning and brought them in Saturday afternoon. Before I even entered the establishment there were two ladies in the front. I explained the situation and let them know I called yesterday and the person over the phone said it was okay to bring them in.
They said absolutely not we are not taking them and they look healthy enough and they are not sick. Just release them and let them fend for themselves. I was appalled when I heard this. These two ladies had no sense of compassion what so ever. The kittens were less than 8 weeks old and they told me they could fend for themselves!???
When I asked where can I even release them they are pouring cement in the clients backyard right now. They said release it in a neighbor front lawn or something. So I said you are basically telling me to dump the kittens!? When I asked them do you know other places that can take the kittens they literally told me no one will take them just release them back. At this point I was having really bad anxiety and couldn't even catch my breath.
How can this establishment tell me one thing over the phone and then when I get there tell me another!?
I am appalled by those ladies attitude and their lack of kindness. How can people who are like this work at an animal care center!? SHAME ON...
