My father has been an active and loyal customer/member of Costco for over fifteen years, only for that membership to be revoked after a bout of unexpected and unwarranted harassment from San Leandro's Costco employees.
We visited this Costco, only to see that the line for the Costco Gas Station adjacent to the warehouse was long and slow to a crawl. So my father (the cardholder) briefly parked the car, brought my family and me to the front, and door security let us in and witnessed my father and exit to enter the line for gas. During the time after, my family and I were able to shop for items, pay for our items (by then my father had finished purchasing gas from Costco's Gas Station, and had sent in my sister to give his membership card to us), and even have our receipt checked at the exit without any apparent issues.
However, right as we exited, two, male employees, notably large and imposing, abruptly stopped us, wheeled the cart back inside, and escorted my mother to an isolated, employee-only room near the back of the warehouse. My sister and I were not allowed to follow my mother and the man escorting her. I had to call and rush my father to find parking and head back inside. The problem the employees involved had identified was that the person paying with the card was not my father.
While we admit that we had caused an infraction concerning Costco membership rules, we thought the way we were punished was extreme, targeted, and unnecessary. Why did the cashiers not stop us from paying for the items in our cart? Why did this Costco's employees allow us to continue right through the exit, only to resort to causing an embarrassing and public scene? Was simply telling us, "You cannot pay for these items because you are not the cardholder," too much work? If simply, and properly, telling us of our membership violation is too much for your employees to handle, then why did your same employees decide it would be worth it to send your two, most imposing employees to act as impromptu bouncers, right at the last minute, to interrogate my mother?
This encounter was literally our first, and last, time in this specific Costco Warehouse, and it cost us a membership that we have relied on for over a decade. Whoever was managing the warehouse at the time is either wholly incompetent in handling customer relations, or finds fun in playing TSA with...

BEWARE, NO 30-day RETURN POLICY FOR EYEGLASSES!! Recently, I purchased eyeglasses here and they we classy and I only paid $95 as the result of my VSP insurance. I made the choice to buy my glasses here because of the great price. Unfortunately, as the saying goes, you pay for what you get. The customer service was good for the price I paid. I was happy with my purchase at first. I really like the frame and the order was processed within 5 days. Originally, the glasses felt fine but after a few days I noticed that the frames were hurting behind my ears. I wear a hearing aid which is a big factor when it comes to the style of glasses. I returned to Costco to see what could be done about this and the clerk tweeted them and that seemed to work. A day after the quick fix the bridge of my nose began to hurt and now I have a deep dark mark because the glasses are now too tight. I returned to Costco a second time to ask what I needed to do to fix the glasses so they fit comfortably. The clerk said she would try to adjust the glasses but that since the glasses already went through a heat treatment that a second heat treatment wouldn't be good. She did as I suggested but the glasses still didn't feel comfortable. I asked what I needed to do to get another pair of glasses and I was told I needed to pay full price since Costco doesn't carry another frame that would fit my lens. Well that was a bummer. I now have a pair of glasses that aren't comfortable. The bottom line I think is that Costco doesn't have a policy that allows for returns. NO RETURN FOR PRESCRIPTION GLASSES. My thinking is that had I purchased glasses from a vendor (Kaiser or LensCrafters) that has a 30-day return policy I would have glasses that fit comfortably. Somethings it does take a specialist to sit down and make suggestions for circumstances like for people who wear hearing aids. I certainly would have paid more but I would have glasses that fit. This is not a reflection on this store in particular but on Costco...
Read moreDear Costco,
I would like to file a formal complaint against the San Leandro, California location. (*you no longer accept email or tweets..wth?!)
I was shopping at this location Monday March 7,2022; and ended my trip by going to the gas station out back.
A rude employee of yours was upset because I honked a horn to get some assistance with the receipt dispensing machine. after multiple honkings he begrudgingly came out of his little shack and accuse me of not being disabled, not knowing how to use the machine. I stayed at the machine display it would not be able to print a receipt.. hence I needed some assistance. when he came over he said honking the horn was "not for that?!".. I would need to be disabled and need it assistance in pumping fuel. I initially ignored his comment about being disabled and he decided to show me his intelligence by getting it printed through normal means from the customer's perspective. He then gives an excuse.. it would not print because it wasn't full?!.. that was pretty ludicrous in my opinion. he had finally managed to get it to print out a receipt with his lack of empathy and chagrin.
I then told him that I was indeed ♿disabled and I can prove it with my certification of neuropathy including a disabled placard. I also added that I chose to pump my own gas because I I'm still ABLE to; and like my Independence.
there's rude Costco employee didn't say another word and just handed me my receipt and walked away.. not even an apology!
The people that you hire at this location are horrible, immature, non empathetic, discrimination and judgmental towards the disabled. don't pass judgment on your customers because they are not in a wheelchair to be considered a disabled person.
I have been a long time decades Costco member back during the days of Price Club.
I have never been treated this way; marginalized from a disabled person's perspective.
I would like a written apology from Senior Management and disciplinary action taken on that...
