Superior Fitness Center is more than just a neighborhood gym. Owner Dustin Allliano is dedicated to healthy, positive living in all spheres. HIs energy seems limitless. He has created Superior for individuals who want to better themselves—better their bodies, minds, their perspectives on life. Dustin sees in everyone this nascent drive to be the best we can be.
Suprerior's staff is equally friendly and helpful. It is not unusual for a trainer to spontaneously step over, take the time to show a new member how to improve their form, maybe demonstrate how to adjust settings on unfamiliar equipment to get the best results.
The equipment available to use includes pieces I've never seen in a workout room, and that equipment gets adapted for every need; ropes, huge tires, a device to practice tight-rope walking….
A few of the many affirmative quotes in frames or painted on the walls are his, but he shares the space with the likes of Ernest Hemingway and many others. And, while in the past I might have dismissed such affirmations as just words, I see Dustin, his crew and Superior's diverse group of members take them to heart, as I am learning to do.
Having reached an age where I am losing strength and balance at an alarming rate, I asked Dustin for help. In a few weeks, with his guidance and some of this equipment, I've watched myself grow stronger and my balance surer. Increasingly, those moments when I feel off-balance, which were a real concern after my first fall, occur less and less frequently.
I feel increasingly confident as I workout—taking my first step onto the raised beam and slowly traversing the length—that I can do this, and that I am getting stronger, more sure-footed. Dustin's willingness to check in with me via text, to urge me on, to congratulate me on my progress has helped as well. No trainer I've worked with has shown that level of personal interest in my progress.
It is a testament to Dustin and his team that I and the other seniors I see at Superior fit in with the school-age athletes at the weights, the men and women of all ages enjoying the classes and circuits, even the young man I suspect of being one of the Flying Wallendas, practicing on the ropes—all us, the diverse members of Superior Fitness, intent on self-improvement. It starts at the top.
Superior Fitness may not fit the cookie cutter image you might expect of a fitness center, and that's...
Read moreJoining Superior fitness Glute Camp lead by Jordan was the best decision I could have made! Jordan is passionate about he does and cares about the members. He makes sure to teach us how to perform each exercise with correct form and the importance/ benefits that the training plays in our day to day lives. I have experience working in the fitness industry specifically in management, I have to say this place is well rounded, Dustin, Jordan and their bilingual female trainer Rosi, all really care about their members and they take pride in providing a great gym environment. I attend the Glute camp & occasionally the Drip class, when I joined I was out of shape (40lbs over weight) since I had been inconsistent for almost 2 years. I felt defeated and I’m not going to lie I cried my first week after each class because I realized how out of shape I had gotten. But I kept showing up, I started 2-3 days a week and eventually 4-5 days. I couldn’t even do a body squat, I started with 1/4 squats. Now I’m squatting close to 185lbs with proper form for 8 reps and my one rep max is 225lbs! I never knew how empowering working out like this could be! This program has changed my life I’m more ways than one! I’m more confident that I can do what I set my mind to even in my career! I encourage you to join if you are looking for a community of supportive people that feel like family & friends! I have met wonderful people that have become close friends! Even the members who workout independently are always very welcoming with a smile and help each other when you need a spotter! Everyone here is very supportive, even for people starting out, know that we have all started out at some point so do not feel intimidated. Its such a special hidden gem in Santa Barbara. Recently update with new equipment, parking, outdoor fitness area and very clean! I can go on and on about what I love about this place so I...
Read moreThis is a great gym. The facilities and equipment are all top notch, well maintained and well organized. It’s pretty large, too: there’s a few different rooms and even an outdoor area, each with a wide variety of different weights, machines, and workout tools. I think no matter your training style or goals, whether you’re just beginning or a dedicated athlete, you’ll find everything you need here. I personally spend a lot of time in their outdoor area, which is packed with a huge number of things you won’t find at other gyms, like large tires and sleds, and heavy ropes and chains to pull them with.
The facilities are awesome, but the real draw is the atmosphere and vibe. The owner, Dustin, is there almost every day, and is friendly and sincerely engaged with everyone who works out there. He sets a positive and encouraging tone that everyone else at the gym matches. From the start I was extremely impressed by his dedication to customer service: he gives out his personal phone number and usually responds to texts right away. You can tell he’s always looking for ways to improve the gym and make sure every single member gets the best use out of it.
I highly recommend doing personal training with Dustin. Far from just counting reps, his approach is wildly creative. He’s always finding new ways to combine simple tools like tires and ropes to create exercises that, besides being effective, are actually interesting and fun. Every session I never know exactly what to expect. He treats it like a craft, and his passion for it is incredibly motivating.
One last thing I appreciate about this place is that it’s clean, quiet, and (during the day) naturally lit. I hate it when gyms blast loud music in every room. It’s a very nice and calm space, free of distractions and easy to relax...
