Mike and his staff provided me one of the best experiences I've ever had in purchase of ANY vehicle, let alone a bike. Allow me share that I've been a road biker since I was a kid, and was really skeptical about the whole concept of e-bikes. Then my life changed. I was diagnosed with a malignancy at the end of June, 2018, underwent surgery, radiation and chemotherapy, and I'm on a program of continued chemo (and other things as well) to keep the cancer at bay. This had a huge impact on my stamina, my strength in general, and my ability to get far on my road bike. Every night following my surgery for months, I dreamed about cycling the roads I love, that I've cycled for 32 years. The idea of an e-bike was brought to me by one of my buddies, who takes me to the gym a few days a week. I did research for several weeks, looking at e-bike reviews on the Internet and YouTube. Went to lots of bike shop websites. This helped narrow my search. I decided on one or two e-bike makes, and Current E-Bikes carried them both. Mike, owner of the shop, Robbyn and I had several phone and email conversations before I went to their shop, refining / defining what I wanted, what would fit, what components matched my goals (I was a tough customer!). The day I went to Mike's shop, he spent the entire afternoon with me. We went through every detail, took rides around Santa Cruz including hills, intersections, parking lots, etc., and it was incredibly clear his goal was me being totally happy with my bike. I went home with a bike that day (this doesn't always happen--in some cases they order a specific frame and "groupo" that can take a few weeks to arrive). The bike I purchased is solid, incredibly safe, has dual power packs (giving me a range of 70-90 miles), shocks, is just the smoothest, surest ride I have ever had on a bike. And I'm riding every road, every hill, every long stretch I've been dreaming about. It is right there with me, responds beautifully. I can get a fantastic aerobic and quad/gastro/glute workout, and as I tire, it gets me home smoothly and without a fuss. Mike and his staff made it clear that service on my bike is included with the purchase, and that they are there whenever I've got a question, a problem, a suggestion. They are customer service personified, and the the bikes they carry are truly first class! First of all, they are open for business during this difficult (COVID-19) time. But they take customer and staff safety very seriously. They prefer to have one customer in the shop at a time, and I've been helped out on the sidewalk. It's probably best if you call to make an appointment. Masks are required. Social distancing is required. I test-rode three bikes, and before (and after) I did, the bikes were thoroughly cleaned with disinfectant. I'm a nurse, so I appreciate this policy and process. I visited the shop four different times before I bought a bike. I was full of questions. Never did I get the vibe of, "oh, here he comes again!" The staff are knowledgeable, and they are also patient with someone like me, who doesn't know a whole lot about ebikes. I just got answers to my questions, in a language that I could understand. And they're just nice people. I never felt like I was being pressured to buy, or "buy up." I could have bought a bike online. But I don't recommend it. A friend of mine sent a check for a bike and has never heard a thing since. I like the idea that if I have a problem with my bike, Current eBikes is within walking distance of my house. And I get bike tune-ups/inspections for as long as I own the bike. Yes, you can buy a bike for less, but I prefer to have the sense of security, and I like to support local business.
