The Garden Company Nursery & Gift Shop — Local services in Santa Cruz

The Garden Company is always such a great experience. The staff are so kind and helpful, without being over bearing at all. They are able to answer the often random questions my mother and I throw at them. If one staff member doesn't know or isn't sure about something, they're not too proud to admit it, and ask a colleague. This is the perfect place to go for gifts for others, or yourself ;)! The selection of locally made fantastic smelling and feeling lotions, beautiful and unique scarves, cards, jewelry, and fun and interesting knick knacks for kids and adults, makes it hard NOT to walk away with gifts for everyone! The plants and trees always look healthy and well cared for and the artistic garden sculptures are really cool and exciting! They are placed randomly throughout the garden so from a baby elephant to a giant iridescent sphere, surprises are in every turn! This place is very fun, an awesome place for a family outing, or to go spend some time perusing by yourself. Perfect go to garden store if you live on the west, and worth the trip...

Everything and almost everyone was really nice, found what I was looking for, then I went to checkout and the older blonde lady checking out customers on 6/21/2020 (kinda tall and skinny) was very rude to my wife. I realize that the checkout procedure was a little unusual due to the covid19 pandemic. But she really didn’t seem to enjoy her job and was bitter to my wife because she didn’t understand the credit card checkout procedures of placing the card on the cloth to be decontaminated. It was our first experience there and due to her attitude we won’t be going back. We will stick with the other nurseries around town. I was looking for a Hachiya persimmon around San Jose and couldn’t find one that’s healthy. So, I called around and this nursery had one which they kept in on hold for me. I drove down to check it out if it is healthy before buying it. Fortunately, it was healthy with branches growing all around. Leaves were large and green. There was even one flower. Price was lower than in San Jose which made up for the commute. I don’t mind driving extra 20 miles to get a healthy fruit tree since I will be spending lot more time planting and growing it.
