THESE ARE THE FACTS, please read the entire review, thank you for your support of the YWCA. I’d like to clarify the facts around the funds being denied to the YWCA by the new board. At the time of the transition we had 107K profit. According to the bylaws, a minimum of 51% “available profit” was suppose to be “ awarded” to the YWCA. That’s almost 55K. When the new board denied the quarterly donation to the YWCA, it cost them there Solar grant and the back to school program. The Treasure House had sponsored the program for over a decade. The donation amount the current administration is claiming they donated, was actually donated by the previous administration. We gave 85K which was partly from last years profits. To date, the new administration has only given 10K. I along with the majority of the board and long term volunteers, 10 of us in all, departed in protest. Prior to the transition, ALL of the retiring volunteers had been training the incoming board as they had no prior knowledge of the responsibilities. I personally helped train the pricing chair and conducted a P&L and marketing training session. When the New board denied the funds, all 10 of us felt we could not in good conscience support their agenda going forward. They have since closed for a make over using the funds meant for the YWCA at a cost of 13K. When the money was raised, our consignor contracts and advertising stated funds raised would be donated to the YWCA. That’s called designated funds as per the State Attorney General. The Shop won an award from assemblyman Jim Wood earlier in the year because we donated all the funds to the Y. The outgoing volunteers have been requesting the current board to live up to their obligations and donated the funds to the YWCA. Transparency denied…. In the 60 years of business, The Treasure House has NEVER denied access to board meetings, profit and loss statements or secretary minutes to the volunteers . The new administration is denying these to the volunteers. While legal, it’s discretionary, which begs the question, why hide this info when the handling of the funds is being scrutinized? And why change the format that allows for the board to be paid? .Finally, they have removed the YWCA name from their marketing material I.e. Facebook, contracts etc. All of these actions are unacceptable. The state attorney general has rules in regards to how a non-profit can govern. Seems they are ignoring many of those. That should cause alarm to the community. As you can see my comments have alarmed the new administration, see the comment below from Wendy Davis who was the one who misled the volunteers into voting against the YWCA designated funds. Why? The funds are owed to the YWCA, which the previous board WAS going to donate, that’s not draining funds, it’s following our bylaws. We had 50K left. That’s more than the shop had ever had or needs. To keep the shop open is roughly 5K a month. That’s easy to make if you know how to run a retail business. We were netting 15-20K a month prior to the new administration, Wendy’s diatribe is telling. I have documentation on all of...
Read moreThe atmosphere has definitely changed at the Treasure House. Not sure who was in charge with the "remodeling" changes, but the place felt off. Could have been the stark white walls or overhearing the person on the phone demanding that someone come pick up their items that did not sell. Meanwhile, there was hardly any inventory, and what was there did not look appealing for this type of shop. Won't be rushing back....Meanwhile, "owner" has responded with a comment that doesn't even...
Read moreI absolutely love the treasure house. I collect Lenox, Pyrex, and various midcentury modern Knick knacks. I have felt a little burned out lately going to thrift stores— goodwill and the like just sell the good stuff on EBay anyways.
The treasure house lives up to its name. I have found a set of very well taken care of Pyrex there, a whole set of fine silverware, and a beautiful Tiffany bracelet, all for pretty reasonable prices.
It has a totally different feel from a...
