ALDI is owned by the billionaire German-based Albrecht family that also owns Trader Joe's and other retail chains. So, any money you spend in Savannah goes to them, not the local economy. Their simple layout and limited inventory is deceptive, since everything is trucked in, none of it locally sourced. Its no-frills approach is a cost-cutting measure designed to eliminate labor and food storage costs, both which traditional grocery stores rely on heavily.
