If you’re thinking about getting cabinets from IKEA, or using their designers, please read this! I sat down with a kitchen planner who had some good ideas regarding the overall design of the kitchen. The major flaws were in IKEA’s selection of the cabinet above the sink as well as above the range. Both cabinets were completely the wrong size which I did not realize until after they were installed. In the case of the cabinet above the range, a hole has to be drilled in the bottom so that you can access the court for the microwave below it. Since I had “modified “this cabinet, it was not returnable. Cabinet above the sink was 6 inches misaligned with the sink itself and could not be adjusted. These design flaws absolutely should not be overlooked. Also, if you were planning on installing these cabinets yourself, you absolutely have to be handy and have somewhat of a background in building. We had a large area where there was a blind cabinet, so I had to build this out myself, as well as cut cover panels to fit. There is a lot of customization work, which we did not realize going into this, so just know this upfront. I will see that after all has been finished, the kitchen does look great, but that’s because I was able to modify many items. Spent countless hours on the phone management who simply offered me less than a $200 rebate for the mistakes. My kitchen, which is approximately 10 x 10 x 10 cash right at $4000 so I did save quite a bit of money over the next choice. Also, we did order quartz countertops from the manufacture that IKEA uses and we are very happy with them. I would also recommend doing a waterfall edge if you go with quartz countertops as it makes your home look so much more finished.my only complaint about the installers of the countertops is the process in which this is done. Kia has two different processes for having someone come out to measure for countertops. There’s one person who comes out if your kitchen is completely empty, and a separate person who comes out if your cabinets have been installed, but you were waiting for countertops. When we called to have someone come out, IKEA did not tell us About two different options and sent out the wrong person. The guy showed up right on time, walked in the kitchen, and literally said I’m the wrong guy, you need the guy who measures when cabinets have already been installed. This would certainly be good to know upfront. You have to go into IKEA and pay for countertops upfront before they send out someone. Once this was done, everything went smoothly. Just think everything is my biggest suggestion, also make sure you look over your plans with an Eagle eye to make sure the designer did everything correctly. Also, because IKEA works off the measurements that you provide, there is zero room for error.

Read moreExperience ended well but had a terrible start. We almost walked out without buying anything. The initial help in the kitchen department was extremely off putting. There was a Matt and Sergio who were there. We had called the day prior about an issue we were having and the person we spoke with told us to come to the kitchen department the next day and they could help. So we drove about 4 hours on my partners birthday to get to the store for what we thought would be a smooth and fun experience. We found an employee and told them why we were there and what we needed. She directed us where to go and said they could help. Matt and Sergio who were there were very rude and unhelpful. Refused to help us and said that they just couldn’t. We explained that we had called ahead, spoken with customer support, the store the prior day, and someone there already and told to come to them. They wouldn’t look up our information, didn’t make a single attempt, or offer to get us someone else. I asked to speak to a manager since this is where we were directed to go by multiple people. They claimed to have called us a manager and that they would meet us on the floor below, which seemed weird but we went. There was no manager waiting or there in the department at all. Eventually we found another employee who went to look for someone. They came back with another employee who was more than happy to help and resolved the issue immediately within minutes. This wasn’t even a manager, just someone who knew how to help. It truly felt like the first two employees did not want to help us in any way. They wouldn’t even try to look up our information and kept saying they wouldn’t help us. We had been to ikea in Bolingbrook multiple times and had great experiences with our family. Having Matt and Sergio repeatedly refuse to help us in any way, say they wouldn’t look up our information because they didn’t want to be fired and that it would be fraud was just beyond what we would ever expect. We just needed our account looked up and brought our identification as we were told the previous day to do. To hear someone say that was horrible and I felt like I was being accused of doing something wrong when we were only doing exactly what multiple other employees had told us to do. Matt and Sergio just kept talking to each other like we weren’t there saying they wouldn’t do it, wouldn’t help us, and it was fraud. This was something the next person resolved and did within minutes of them helping us. The in store partners need to have better overall training on processes and procedures, and more training on how to resolve...
