DIY experience that was refreshing and honest experience from PSD Heating and Cooling and its owner Pat!
Short Version: Pat was there at the house on time and within the hour after calling (weather wasn't too cold but still). I had serviced the unit as a Do It Yourselfer (DIY) and had described to Pat what I had done to which he was appreciative albeit I was not able to resolve the issue. In fact he wasn't off put or anything and while working on diagnosing the issue he walked through all the things he was testing and touching just to make sure I was following and was aware.
Honestly, I was amazed at that interaction and after trying a list of things to diagnose the issue he did find the root cause and again instead of quoting work and being pushy he left me with options on what I can do by myself and if he'd need to perform them. He even followed up with me a few days later to see how things were!
Long Version: I don't claim to be a professional in other's field but consider myself handy as an Engineer. Having had some issues with my HVAC and based on the diagnostic lights I replaced some of the plug and play parts in the system. Despite that the unit still error-ed out and that's when someone recommended me to PSD.
I initially called the HVAC company that did the initial installation of my HVAC (Hannaberry) and not only were they concerned that I "Touched" the unit and that they had to get "approval" to see if they can come service my unit but they also said that I "shouldn't touch anything after they service the unit". I was upfront with what was changed and it wasn't rocket science nor was it a specialized part and service that I performed. Lastly, they were 30% more expensive for the service call which I did not go ahead with.
Being a Google Local Guide I asked a few contacts and was amazed at the almost positive reviews for PSD.
Pat (PSD owner) was at the house ahead of the quoted time and within the hour after the call. I described all the things I looked for in the unit and the parts and services I performed which did not address the issue and requiring a professional. Amazingly he was appreciative of what I described and as he was diagnosing he also described what he was looking for so I can follow through. He was through and instead of guessing what could be the culprit he even offered to swap it off another unit just to confirm 100% that the main board was the issue.
After confirming and showing me what the issue was he left me with options instead of "Telling" me what he'd fix knowing that I can perform the steps. Please note that if a DIYer had caused issues and that would interfere with what PSD was tasked with then it would only be fair to back out the work and/or criticize the mistake if there were issues by he installer so I'd always be honest with the tech's and not hide what work was done. He wasn't pushy at all and left with suggestions and options for me to decide and no condescending conversations about not touching anything "Unless"!
If you are looking for HVAC services then not calling PSD will be a disservice to yourself. They are honest and did not make me feel like a child who shouldn't be touching things! Was on time and the services were very competitive and they did not used that as a foot in the door to push for other items.

I’m writing this second review for Pat.
I turned my air conditioning on two days ago for the first time. It ran through the night, but could not lower the temperature much at all. I called Pat at 11:45 AM and he started troubleshooting the unit by 1 PM.
This was an actual godsend at the time due to the fact that I was having severe nausea and violently threw up about 10 times in 3 hours. The last thing a person needs when they’re nauseous is to be overheated.
In addition, my recent EKG showed that I had a heart attack. I had an echocardiogram done as well. Some abnormalities did show. I'm 58 and not in good aerobic shape. I was too sick to drive anywhere. The fact is I could have had a heart attack if I didn't get my place cooled soon.
It turned out to be a pretty common repair. It needed a capacitor, AC refrigerant recharge, as well as some sealant. Pat's work is honest, thorough and high-quality. Most importantly, He treats people with respect and his pricing is as far as any company out there.
My heater died last Thursday evening. I spoke with an HVAC pro the next day that had installed a new system for my neighbor a couple years ago. He actually quoted a higher quality unit then the one I currently have (age 21 years). I verified the $6800 out the door price for my one bedroom condo was not only competitive, but below market according to a friend who had his own HVAC company for many years.
When I asked him about fixing the unit he said he doesn't really get involved in MacGyvering broken units that are that old. At the same time he tells me that if he installs the new unit it would be his "baby" and he would guarantee it and service it. This completely confused me.
I figured instead of MacGyvering it, come out like a Pro and try to fix it like Pat from PSD Heating and Cooling in Schwenksville PA did. I called Pat on Friday morning and he was able to schedule a $75 service visit first thing Saturday morning. He said parts would be additional but that was all.
He showed up on time and wore booties although I already had drop cloths laid over my carpet. He diagnosed it immediately as being the fan motor capacitor and he went to his truck to get one. He was done in 15 minutes for only $225 my problem was solved and the heat was on.
He said that because I turned off the heat as soon as I smelled a burning smell I likely salvaged the blower motor.
The quick math would tell me he saved me $6600. I've already referred him to 2 of my neighbors and he's coming out in 2 days to tune up one of their systems.
Quality, honest work is difficult to find. I must say I chose Pat based on internet reviews and the fact that he's not a large company. He's the owner and he came and did the work himself; not some kid a couple years out of trade school.
I am extremely grateful for what Pat did for me after just having to replace a fridge and a water heater in the...
Read moreI have no words on how strongly I recommend using Pat from HVAC problems. I had DE Duffey & Sons come out for spring AC tune up and after finishing the job, the technician informed me that there is no freon in the unit. He told me that he couldn't find the leak, so he filled nitrogen in the unit for now and someone from the office will call me. Without even explaining the whole situation and solutions, he just left. Later, two different technicians came out twice, but they couldn’t even find the leak. They simply told me to change the whole unit and quoted me approximately $5000 just for the unit plus labor, freon and tax. I was really annoyed at their solution because my unit is only 6 years old. In short, my experience with DE Duffey was not great because I was always kept uninformed, and they were looking to charge me for a leak they couldn’t find. So, I reached out to Pat and explained the whole situation and he was really surprised by their solution since my unit is only 6 years old. He came out and diagnosed the problem and was able to find the leak within 20 mins. One thing I really liked about Pat is that he was upfront about his charges and would ask multiple times before touching the unit. Unlike DE Duffey, he would communicate and teach you about the system. Once he changed the valve, he recharged the unit, and the unit was working like brand new within an hour. It’s been a week and I literally have no problem with the system. Pat even reached out to me to see how the unit is doing. The whole thing costed me $1175 (diagnostic, part, freon and sealant). Meanwhile, it would have cost me approximately $8000 if I would have gone with DE Duffey & Sons. Please reach out to Pat if you are looking to get unit fixed in a timely manner without paying unnecessarily thousands of dollars. Pat is a pro, and he knows what he is doing. He would never trick into spending more just so that it would benefit him. Pat...
