I had an excellent experience with Shane and his team handling an estate sale for us. I would like to address the negative review posted. Unfortunately, many people, can be under the assumption that lots of items in their loved ones’ home are far more valuable than they actually are. I learned this during our sale because I had to have many items appraised due to some family members requesting and insisting that some items were far more valuable than they actually were. Most of the items appraised values were much lower than we all expected. The asking prices on eBay and other sites do not reflect the fair market value of pieces-OR WHAT THEY ACTUALLY SELL FOR. I completely trust Shane and his team. He even helped me with advice on selling some pieces independently BEFORE I actually committed to hire him, pieces for which he received NO COMMISSION. He and has company are excellent, more than fair. When you sign the contract for the estate sale, you agree to allow the company to price the items to sell. That is their expertise. If you want a certain amount for the items, then should sell them yourself. Once you sign the contract, you no longer have a say. To leave a negative review based on a subjective idea of what something is worth, with no evidence of appraised value is unfair. Shane and his team went above and beyond. They were professional and kind, but with a personal and compassionate touch. They staged the house beautifully and worked with us to get everything remaining cleared out quickly. I would highly recommend Family Tree to anyone needing these services! Do not let a negative review deter you from using...
Read moreI talked to Sean a few weeks before scheduling my estate sale. He explained that movers had to have everything out prior to them coming in to mark things. I asked him what we would do with what did not sell. He stated he had some storage or would assist in getting it to an auction. His workers that came the first day to price things did a great job, but had a lot left and did Not show up the next day. He was running a couple other sales and I assume they went there. They came back the morning of the sale and things were still unmarked and disorganized. His Mother was the cashier and she did an amazing job with all the people that started coming. The last day of the sale Sean was totaling everything up on a legal pad that his Mother had been keeping track of. He showed me the figures and a $500 deduction. I asked what that was for and he said “ the dumpster”! I could not believe the leftover furniture, etc was destined for a dumpster. I refused to pay for a dumpster and he walked out. It was 24 hrs before the last walk thru by buyer before closing. My house was an absolute mess and I had no way to haul furniture. Later, that evening Jessica came with a check and my house keys. Thanks to friends I donated and gave away a lot furniture, etc. We cleaned late into the night. Sean is personable and I totally misjudged him. I did not receive any paperwork of items sold or anything else. The people that work for him are the best! His Mother is an absolute jewel! If you use his company get things in writing , not just his word. Have a firm agreement! We...
Read moreIn my experience, hiring Family Tree Estate Sales (Shane & Jessica Compeau) to handle my late father’s estate in July 2025 was very disappointing. I trusted them during a difficult time and was told the process would be a full, properly advertised estate sale. Instead, the day before, the sale format was changed without my input, and setup was rushed with very little preparation.
On the first day of the sale, almost all of my father’s most valuable belongings were gone quickly. His lifetime Snap-on tool collection, specialty tools, and other equipment (worth 7,000-10,000 used value) were listed on receipts as only $945 total for “tools.” In addition, a large amount of Harley-Davidson memorabilia and motorcycle parts were no longer there, yet the receipts I received did not reflect their full value.
The receipts were vague, with broad categories like “clothes” or “denim jacket,” and provided little detail about what was sold. By the end of the weekend, every valuable item had been removed, yet the total reported for the sale was surprisingly low. The property was also left in disarray, with items piled in the garage. At payout, I was initially offered 50% instead of the contracted 60%, which was only corrected after I raised the issue.
In my opinion, this was a serious disappointment and not the level of service I expected. Families going through grief deserve honesty, transparency, and proper accounting. Based on my experience, I would not recommend Family Tree...
