This post/review is long overdue but so warranted! For the past few years, I have been looking at a couple of new rockeries in my neighborhood and admiring how beautifully constructed they were. I would then come home and look at my rockery, and think to myself, I wish that I could have my rockery rebuilt to those same standards. Well, fast forward to early spring, and upon inspection of my rockery, I noticed several fractures in my rocks, especially on the corners. So, I reached out to a fellow neighbor whom I saw tearing his rockery apart. This neighbor of mine turns out to be a concrete contractor and was going to be adding concrete steps to his property. In talking with him about my situation, he gave me the contact information for Tim with Eagle Rock Landscaping. He then proceeds to tell me that if I'd like to check out Tim's work, I needed to go no further than one block away. I was like OMG, I drive by that rockery every day and admire it so much. Needless to say, I called Tim right away and the beginning of our 3 months relationship began.
From the moment Tim came to my property, I knew he was the right guy for the job. We talked all things WS for the first hour and realized we even knew some of the same people. I told Tim about a few different rockeries that I had been looking at over the last few years, and it was no surprise that all of them were the work of Tim with Eagle Rock Landscaping.
Upon inspection of my rockery, Tim said, "you want the good news or the bad news first?" I chuckled and said, "I'll take the bad news first." I pretty much knew what Tim was going to say, as I had been inspecting my rockery for the last few years and knew that it was starting to fail. The bad news was that my rockery needed to be replaced, the good news was that it already had a 2-foot setback from the sidewalk. Tim and I talked for probably another hour as he explained to me the process, at which time we shook hands and I waited for Tim's estimate, which I gladly accepted.
I couldn't have been happier with the outcome. Tim and mines collaboration throughout this whole month and half project was impeccable! We were both lockstep in our thoughts and ideas. Tim is the Picaso of rockery work, a Master of his craft! I can't tell you how many neighbors, close by and from a far would stop and watch Tim operate his excavator with his spotter Jim. All were in AWE in how each rock was meticulously rolled, spun, turned, before placement. His machine being an extension of his brain and the ease at which he would place each rock was just a masterpiece to watch. I went to bed each night knowing that I chose the right guy for my project, and that Tim had my best interests at heart. I woke up every morning looking forward to our 8:30 am meeting. Tim would often tell me that he had set aside certain rocks for my corners, as accent rocks and how he planned on working them into my rockery. The rocks Tim had set aside for my dry (corner) water feature were just incredible. And the signature rock that was incorporated into that dry water feature blew my mind!!
Tim was also very mindful of leaving his job site very clean at the end of every day and for the weekends. It's been around a month and a half now since Tim completed my complete tear down and rebuild of my rockery, and I have to say, I miss having Tim around and having our 8:30 am pow wows!! Tim is not only excellent at his craft, but also an excellent human being with a wealth of knowledge. Thank you, Tim!!
If you are looking to have any type of rockery work done, there isn't a more qualified person out there than Tim with Eagle Rock Landscaping.
Hopefully I am able to come back and add photos for all of you to see. If not, I will make another post with...
Read moreIf you look carefully, you'll notice that all of the negative reviews for Tim are folks that did not actually hire him and had a hard time ironing out details with him. I did not have that issue and nor did the references Tim provided who I contacted. Each time we set up a meeting, he arrived promptly and ready to discuss details. Though it did take us a bit longer than initially promised for his initial estimate, it was not a large delay, unlike some other folks I reached out to who refused to even ballpark estimate the work.
Our project was a somewhat complicated one - our backyard has a decent slope and we needed terraces that would be structurally sound given that our soil is extremely sandy. We needed a patio level, a small garden level, a turf/grass level, and then one last small garden level due to the slope. To maximize space, we wanted the majority of these walls to be near vertical block walls. The work is practically flawless. My father-in-law has a background in construction and even he was awe-inspired by the finished product. I cannot fathom anyone impugning the quality of Tim's work. To top it off, our neighbor's rockery was going to be disturbed by our work, and Tim (with permission from the neighbor) was actually able to help keep some soil erosion from their property at bay as a bonus and make their corner look much nicer.
I will say that there was one issue we ran into - due to the odd way in which our side sewer was laid (it's an old house and replacing the entire side sewer would've been prohibitively expensive), we were forced to make non-trivial changes to our initial plan that resulted in some wasted work that Tim had to undo. This caused the project to go over budget and over time. Ultimately, we were able to work out a change order that both of us could agree was fair. The fact that he went long on time didn't particularly bother me - he's essentially a one man crew (with some help from laborers) and does not cut corners. While that may seem odd, the fact of the matter is that he is extraordinarily experienced and I've hired contractors in the past with larger crews that got the work done quickly but with important flaws. If I had to choose between a contractor who finishes exactly on schedule or one who takes longer but is meticulously detailed, it's no competition I want the second one (which is...
Read more"The Driveway Fairy" We had our driveway and retaining wall redone last summer by Eagle Rock Landscaping, and I can honestly say it was one of the best contractor experiences we’ve ever had — and that’s saying a lot, because we’ve had some rough ones in the past.
Our contact was Tim — who also happens to be the owner of the company — and from the start, he stood out. He was knowledgeable, creative, honest, funny, and one of the hardest-working people I’ve ever seen. He did about 90% of the job himself in the blazing July heat — The crew he did bring to assist were only his most trusted.
When he first presented his plan, I’ll admit I was skeptical. I’ve got some contractor-related PTSD and the words “trust me” usually make me break out in hives. But Tim was so patient and calm. Anytime I had a concern or fired off a text (which I did plenty), he responded with thoughtful explanations that helped me understand the why behind his decisions.
One of my biggest worries was the width of the new driveway. He wanted to use every inch of the space we had, but I was afraid it would look like a giant slab of concrete — especially since most of our neighbors have narrow, single-car driveways. But Tim was right. The width is perfect. It’s functional, it looks beautiful, and it blends with our home so much better than I imagined.
He also built a stunning rock retaining wall, and let me tell you — this thing is a work of art. He hand-picked each stone and placed them like a sculptor, not a landscaper. My husband was originally against it (we’d seen too many poorly done ones), but we both agree now: it’s gorgeous. We get compliments all the time from neighbors and even people just walking by.
And the cherry on top? Our daughter came home from a trip to Europe and found a brand-new driveway waiting for her. Tim has since earned the nickname “The Driveway Fairy” in our house.
His pricing was very fair and reasonable, especially for the level of work and detail involved. There were no surprises, no hidden fees — just solid, honest business from start to finish.
Bottom line: Tim is a gem. If you’re considering a project and want someone who will work with integrity, skill, creativity, and an incredible work ethic — go with Eaglerock Landscaping. You won’t regret...
