So out of the last two times I’ve shipped with AML, I had a $500 Dyson vacuum go missing. Upon notifying AML personnel, I was told there was nothing they could do about it, and they “really weren’t the best company to use for shipping household goods”. They are the only company that ships to Southeast Alaska, as they bought out our other company and then raised shipping rates. I ended up calling again and asking a different employee if they had camera footage, they said yes, I proceeded to get the footage of me loading the vacuum into the shipping box, and the footage of the shipping box coming out of it sans vacuum, and a helpful person at the Petersburg AML office helped fight with the Seattle AML people to get me a reimbursement.

This time, I got a $1200 quote for shipping my truck up, “as long as it was under 7’ high”, and told that with the fuel prices dropping, it might even be lower due to the fuel surcharge. I spent 4 hours taking my lumber rack off the truck so it stayed in this price range, then on the day I went to drop it off (after I had already driven up to Seattle, bought a plane ticket home, and got a hotel to stay at for the night) was told it was actually going to be close to $1600. I asked if they would honor the original quote and was told there was just nothing anybody could do, exactly what I was told about my missing vacuum.

Absolutely disgusted with what the management of this company has turned into, and really bummed they have a monopoly...

Great location with awesome customer service. They made dropping off our cargo. (A boxed Digital piano) a breeze just had to go into the shipping and receiving office with our bill of lading. And they then give you a reflective safety vest and then instruct you where to drive your vehicle to have your cargo unloaded. Once you arrive in the correct location they promptly get you unloaded with a forklift sign your paperwork and you return your safety vest and it's as easy as that! I've always had a great experience here and have always been quickly taken care of and back...

Alaska Marine Lines is a company I grew up with in southeast Alaska. Because I keep returning to Alaska for visits, kayaking and other wilderness adventures my relationship with AML is steady. Also, when shipping materials, cars, furniture and appliances to friends and relatives, it feels so easy because AML workers are so knowledgeable, patient and generous with offering suggestions that makes the task of packing and shipping so much easier.
