I've worked at Seattle Makers for nearly 3 years. It has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my professional and personal life. I've visited many makerspaces, but Seattle Makers is truly one of a kind.
It's more than a 12,000 sqft makerspace; it's a community of creatives, builders, and lifelong learners.
The team is passionate and supportive. Continously improving the space to make it safe, inclusive, and well organized for anyone who wants to make whatever their heart desires.
They have it all.... woodworking, pottery, lasers, 3d printers, electronics, lapidary, CNC machines, screen printing, metal working, sewing, and more.
For every tool and studio, you don't have to have any prior experience they offer beginner classes for almost every tool to make you feel confident operating machines independently. As well as fun project based classes where you leave with something cool while learning a new skill.
The community of 250+ members is amazing to be able to connect with about projects, ask questions, and find people with similar interests.
Highly recommend for anyone who wants to make things and be around awesome people while doing it.
I wasn't asked to write this, and these are my own words. I am now just a member of the space and still fully believe Seattle Makers as being one of the best makerspaces...
Read moreThe guy managing this place exhibits unpleasant behavior. I choose not to support or patronize their business. The Seattle Makers building is located right next to my apartment, and the parking area typically remains empty, especially on Sunday evenings. However, one Sunday evening around 9 PM, he had my friend's car towed from the parking lot, even though it was completely vacant. He falsely claimed that the alleyway beside the building was a restricted zone (redline) and he will be painting the redline soon, but the city confirmed that it wasn't. He still towed my car. Prior to his arrival, people often parked around the surrounding buildings due to limited parking at my apartment, which is situated at a dead end. While I understand that he has the right to manage the parking lot as he sees fit, his cruelty and dishonesty have left a negative impression on me. Unfortunately, my desire to learn sewing at Seattle Makers has waned due to this...
Read moreI've had an on and off membership with SeattleMakers for over two years now, starting at their location at Gasworks Park and only recently re-renewed at their new location. What brought me to them in the first place was the wide arrange of equipment they had available to use as well as the flexible membership plans. What has kept me coming back over and over is the comradery of my fellow Maker members, the team of extremely helpful Maketeers, and the deeply knowledgeable and caring Space owner. Tools and space are one thing, but the community surrounding and supporting this effort are amazing.
I've taken classes to learn new topics, worked on extensive projects big and small, and even participated at social events. It has been worth every penny, and I couldn't make the art I do without them.
Oh, and the new space is AMAZING!!!
