Great experience: They did what they said they would do. The workmanship is great (and I'm picky) The communication was good Cleanup of the site was fantastic. The company was flexible and accommodated a special request.
Work done: Tuckpointing and 2 new Chimney crowns on really big chimneys. I contacted 4 companies to fix 2 aged chimney crowns and touch up the chimneys ahead of a new roof. Galati and Sons was not the cheapest, but was competitive and in line with the other companies, except one which was much higher. I chose Galati & Sons due to the discussion with the owner where he walked me through his approach, answered my questions patiently, and explained his warranty. These chimneys are not small and the outlay was not small either. The company did a great job with the tuckpointing, and the color match is fantastic. The strike on the joints matches the rest of the brickwork. The crowns look solid, and the second chimney is night and day difference from the old crown. Check out my picture of the before and after of the back crown and spot tuck pointing. The rise and consistency of the crown is much better now than it was before and the brickwork looks great. Both crowns look really solid and like they will be in good shape for a long time. The company offers a 7 year warranty on their work. I plan to have them return to waterproof the chimneys once the tuck pointing cures. Dan, the owner, was easy to contact, and his office responded quickly, passing on info, and providing insurance information. Dan also provided updates on the project, which was great. The crew cleaned up really well. Again, these are big chimneys, and there was a lot of material. The pitched roof was cleaned off, and all the ground areas were clean and clear. There were a few random crown fragments that fell really far from the job site, but I do not hold that against the crew for something that probably fell off the roof and rolled off my patio. Dan also had the team wash my chimney for no charge! It looks fantastic with the color matching mortar and all the stains removed. Lastly, Galati was flexible with my situation. I'm in the middle of a roof project. I just had a flat roof installed and a pitch roof is in progress. Dan was able to describe how he protects a TPO flat roof (important) for the work on my back chimney. I also have a pitch roof getting installed, and asked Dan to get the chimneys done ahead of the new pitch roof. He was able to schedule me with appropriate notice to get done ahead of the pitch roof so his team was not working on a brand new roof. I'll hire again, and plan to have Galati & Sons come back to waterproof the chimneys after...
Read moreI felt the need to share my thoughts on Gelati and Sons after my latest experience. In the highly competitive tuckpointing market, where options and prices abound, this was my second time hiring them, and I can confidently say that Gelati is the top choice. Here's why:
Communication! From the initial call, through emails, to letters for neighbors, they were clear (it will take 2 weeks to reach you, WE will call before we arrive, we will confirm the night before), and they delivered on their promises.
Promptness. As promised, they scheduled a day 3 or 4 days in advance. The night before, they confirmed a 7 AM start. At exactly one second before 7 AM, they arrived at my house. By 7:05, a team of three was on-site and working.
Fair pricing. I received numerous bids, and Gelati's was never the lowest, nor the highest. They justified their pricing with a clear explanation of the work involved.
Cleanliness and courtesy. While concrete and tuckpointers aren't typically known for tidiness, these workers made extensive use of tarps and did an excellent job cleaning up, even while dodging rain.
Family business. It was amazing to meet Dan's grandson, who was learning how to bid on tuckpointing jobs, representing the 5th generation of Gelati. It's a rarity and speaks volumes about their dedication and the consistent quality of their work to last so long in this industry.
For those in need of tuckpointing services, Gelati & Sons should definitely be considered. Personally, I would gladly pay a bit more for the peace of mind that comes with a clean, well-managed business and quality personnel on-site.

Read moreLast year I requested a bid for tuckpointing my three story century home. I was impressed with Dan’s professionalism, knowledge, and communication during the estimate process. I was a bit surprised when he called to say he’d like to walk me through the bid. When the file arrived, I was amazed. He had broken down the work into 6 sections with a diagram of each!! He answered all of my questions. He was willing to do the job in phases that fit my budget. Last year his crew did 1/2 the project in two stages and this January - bravo for good weather - he and his crew finished the job. They were professional, courteous, and seemed to love their work. The results show that love. They were careful about moving - and replacing - all of my outdoor furniture. They cleaned up after themselves such that my neighbor joked that they left the place better than when they arrived. He was correct!! On the administrative side, his office manager was a delight. She even offered last year to come by the house to collect the check. This year, I saved her a trip. Surprisingly, my colleague who often works from my home with me said, “You know, I’m going to miss those guys.!” We both laughed because I felt the same way. No question, it is a messy process but the results are worth it. My old home looks like new. If she could talk, she would be thanking me…and Dan….and his crew, including his grandson. I would have no reservations about recommending Galati...
