Apparently Shrewsbury Lanes thinks that their exempt from the county mask mandate.I have tried very hard since the beginning of the pandemic to keep my family safe, especially with a wife that's immunocompromised.
I dropped my daughter off there at 5:00 tonight, and returned over 2 hours later to find the bowling alley packed and only about two to three out of every 10 people actually wearing a mask. The first two pictures I took showed at least 15 people not wearing a mask. I brought it up with the two college kids running the register and they didn't really have anything to say other than they asked people to put on a mask when they come in which they didn't say anything to us but we were both already wearing masks.
I never would have dropped my daughter off here if I had any idea this is what it was going to be like but when I dropped her off originally the bowling alley was all but empty (aside from the half full plastic beer glass that was sitting in the entryway when we walked in as a testament to how things are being ran.
I like bowling and I am a business owner and I understand with certain things like gyms where there's heavy lifting or high cardio exercise, but bowling is not one of those sports. Olympic athletes are now training with masks on and I'm not certain but I also understand if you're not enforcing it when people are eating food and that's one thing but they've now done recent studies showing that people that have gone to restaurants are 23% more likely to contract covered than people who haven't.
I'm almost positive that bowling alleys are not exempt to the mask mandate in St Louis county.
Trust me I want this to be over just as much as everybody else and I know it makes things difficult with businesses when you have to try to enforce stuff but when it's this blatantly disregarded this is causing outbreaks in the county and increasing the number of cases and it's clearly a health hazard.
Update: I received a threatening message from the owner for posting this review, and I will concede that the people at the front desk were sanitizing bowling balls before games (or at the least the one my daughter received), and I'm sure they were and are "sanitizing" equipment and wiping down tables - it wasn't the sanitizing that I was concerned with. The owner claimed that St Louis County does not require a mask to be worn while "bowling", I did call the St Louis County Department to ask about this and they said bowling was not excluded. There is a portion of the mandate that specifically references a "playing a sport when you are physically exerting yourself".
When I called in specifically to ask about this in general - in reference to bowling or bowling alleys (they said bowling was not exempt). It's probably a fine line, since frequently many people bowling also get food and drink, but when you're in the same building with a bunch of people not wearing masks at all, and you're in the same room for 2 or more hours, it's can't be very safe. I don't want anybody's business to go under during these tough times, and I know it can be hard to enforce customers who don't want to wear a mask, but for everybody's safety, in order to prevent our hospitals from becoming overwhelmed - I hope that they take better measures to...
ย ย ย Read moreWhere do I start if I could give zero stars I would absolutely get zero stars. We held a 11th birthday party here at this location for my nephew first of all, they did not provide my sister with accurate prices. She paid one price and then when she got here, they made her pay in additional price in addition to that She had to pay extra for food. It was not accommodated in any additional way she was greeted by rude staff, prices of food or a bit overpriced. Not to mention thereโs so many songs filtered from the jukebox, which is the TouchTunes system. They have certain songs, rap, or R&B songs Filtered from being able to be played but the entire time they allowed someone to play a bit of a racial type of music here at this location. I do not recommend anyone of African-American be sent to come to this location whatsoever if you plan on hosting a birthday party...
ย ย ย Read moreI love this bar... Err bowling alley... love the retro bowling alley vibe with tons of Mid-century character. All of the employees are clearly passionate about the business. Personally, I'm a social drinker so I'm not here to watch TV. The bar does have TV's which I'm not personally hot on, but they're placed in a way that you have to actively look for them to watch the TV. This makes it so that they aren't obtrusive for people who don't like them, but available for those who want to watch TV while they drink. Prices are really reasonable. So reasonable that I had to double-check my bill to make sure that everything was on there! If you've never been here before, get in here as fast as possible!!! I will personally be back as...
