Walgreens — Local services in Smithville

Picture this: your 4-month-old is prescribed 0.6 mL of famotidine. Prescription goes to Walgreens. You pick it up, check the syringes, and this (photo attached) is what they give you — a 10 mL syringe that doesn’t even have markings small enough for your baby’s dose. I politely ask for a smaller syringe, since this one can’t measure 0.6 mL. They hand me another identical one. Now I’ve got three syringes that all start at 1 mL.

When I explained again, I was told and I quote

“Half of 1 mL is 0.5, so just draw up 0.5 and kinda eyeball it to 0.6.”

Excuse me? You’re asking a parent to eyeball their infant’s medication because you don’t have the right syringe? That’s not just unhelpful, that’s unsafe. As someone who works in customer service, I’d never dream of telling someone to “just guess,” especially when it involves a baby’s prescription dose. And when I brought up my concern, I was told they “weren’t sent the smaller syringes.” So basically, parents are just out of luck. Made a Covid shot appointment online for Smithville, Tennessee for my elderly parents for Monday. Get there and learn that the Moderna shots have not even arrived to the pharmacy. I debated whether to post a message or not but decided to because I know what I would have done as a former healthcare provider. No call from Pharmacy to let us know not to come. Subpar customer service. The app shouldn't allow you to make appointments unless the medication is at the pharmacy. I like Walgreens for the most part. Your pharmacy app is 2nd to none. I'm just very disappointed that no one took the time to notify people showing up. In this day and time when Bidenomics has expenses out of control, how about making an effort to do the right thing. I feel for the parents that showed up with kids, maybe taken out of school early or the elderly that drove themselves to an appointment that didn't exist. This store has always been so neatly organized , and the staff is always familiar . It says a lot when a store has” consistent “wonderful staff . I just moved to this area not too long ago & I have just been going for the last few mos but, I am always very impressed with the quality and for the effort they make to try & correct anything that may be an issue of pricing etc. Manny the store manager has went above and beyond today for me with a specific item that was on sale & sold out . You rarely find the Courtesy & kindness from all members within a shift like I did at this location today for sure & each day I go in there .
