I walked into the center in hopes of viewing a room for an event. I said good morning with a smile and one of the ladies at the front desk greeted me with a very dry morning and turned her head. I proceeded to walk to the counter where she looked as if I was a squatter wanting a place to sit out of the heat. She never asked what she could do to help, but only a blank stare like I was bothering her so I politely told her that I was there to view a room as I had spoke with a lady over the phone and advised to do. She AND the lady next to her began asking questions like, which room are you looking for, with an attitude. I explained that I needed a space for 15-20 people and she still asks me which room am I looking for. I obviously didnât know otherwise I wouldnât have been there viewing the rooms. The OTHER lady then proceeded to ask if I were familiar with any of the other rooms and I explained that Iâd visited a room with a party some time before and she stopped me in the middle of my sentence to tell me that, âTHATâ room is much bigger and you donât want to spend that much money, assuming that I couldnât afford it. I snapped back like, âYou just asked me if I were familiar with any of the rooms so Iâm explaining to you what âexperienceâ Iâve had with ANY of your rooms.â She gets on the phone and calls someone to take me on the tour to view the rooms where I was able to get an idea of what they looked like. I came back after viewing the rooms to possibly book it and pay the fees. She got a paper with the fees on there and began explaining what my options were. Once she was finished speaking, she asked if she needed to âpoint anything outâ as if I couldnât read and I was clearly aware of the prices, etc. At that point I was done bc I knew I was being degraded. While I waiting to speak with the other lady she referred to as âJessicaâ about booking and reaching out to my planner, a young man walks by with his shirt off(black young man) as he was leaving and she tells him that he has to wear a shirt. Totally fine. She then gets on the phone and calls someone discussing what sheâd told the young man and says, âWeâre trying to make America great again, put some clothes on.â I knew then why I got the ugly stares and disrespectful attitude. I had been racially profiled. Of course thatâs Trumps slogan. There are so many people of different races and color that visits this center. Iâve lived in Smyrna and recently moved due to the overwhelming population since the new stadium arrived and Iâve never seen such disgust. I will not be using this center for my party and I hope no one else has to deal with this. Itâs 2018 for Christâs sake! Get over yourselves! Mixed races have been marrying and getting along fine for YEARS now so itâs time for âAmericaâ to get on board. One of the ladyâs name is Debbie and I donât want to assume, but the other is Jessica. I hope this review helps...
Read moreI'm not giving it 1 star for bad service. I'm not giving it 1 star because of the facility. I'm giving it 1 star for the lack of basic human decency. While I was in my last class of the day, I check Instagram and saw one of my friends post an S.O.S . His car battery died and he was stranded in the parking lot of this community center. The post was posted 2 hours before I had seen it. 2 hours is an awfully long time to wait for someone to help you jump your car. So i figured someone at the center already helped but i decided to be sure. I commented on the post. Could you believe that he was still outside in the rain hoping someone would come help him jump his car? I told him I was on the way. It's about an hour away from where I was but that's what you do when someone is in need, HELP THEM. When i arrive, I ask him "Did you ask anyone inside for help?" Turns out every single employee turned him down. If i hadn't gotten there when i did, he would have been fired from his job (they dont count car troubles as an excuse to be late and his car is constantly breaking but he cant buy a new one right now because he has to fix the problems on this car to get to work and uses the money from work to fix his car. A cyclical struggle). If he would've gotten fired, he would not be able to provide for his family (he takes care of his parents for personal reasons I cant speak about). Moral of the story is that this man could have ended up on the streets and his family as well all because nobody in this "Community Center" wanted to jump his car. (And yes, he had jumper cables in case you were wondering). We're all humans, and we all have different struggles going on. If it doesnt cost you to help someone then please...
Read moreThings are off kilter. The prices for event spaces for residents and non-residents are clearly listed on their website. I called to confirm availability for the date of my event and was quoted completely different prices. I needed a 6 hour reservation; about 1 hour to set up, about 1 hour to clean up, and 4 hours for the event.
Here is what it says on their website for the room I wanted to reserve: First 4 hours: $200 Additional hours: $20 Saturday rental hours: 8am - 12am
When I initially called to check date/time availability, this is what I was told: First 4 hours: $200 Additional hours: $70 Saturday rental hours: 8am - 10pm
When I called at a later time to double check availability I was told the following: First 4 hours: $200 Additional hours: $20 Saturday hours: Could reserve until midnight, but only if staff is available. Can only reserve space for a max of 5 hours.
In my opinion, not only did I received way too much varying information to do business there, but I also received an attitude as if I was not welcomed to reserve a room. I was spoken to in a very condescending way and brushed off. I felt judged. On each call I was polite and clear about the type of event and hours I wanted. I prefer consistency and good...
