Was super excited for the last few weeks to finally see Wolverine and Deadpool while traveling into Newport for some training. And then I made the mistake of buying tickets here…
Oh man. This theatre.
(1) draft beer was available until their tap broke. They haven’t fixed it. Desk folks said it “just happened” and then someone else said it’s been like that for a little while now. (2) I asked for a pretzel with a TON of mustard. I even jovially emphasized “TOn of mustard.” The worker gave me 2 packets. I said no, let’s get a handful of packets. “I don’t mind paying for me.” Gives me 3 packets. A worker maybe 2 years older (late teens?) gives me a handful because he saw this exchange. (2A) the pretzel was hard and stale, albeit microwaved. (3) the theater was freshly painted somewhat recently….looked nice but smelt of fumes. (4) it’s about 75 in there. Maybe 76. Awkwardly warm, which strengthened the smell of the paint. (5) when I got to my seat, there were crumbs all over it. Popcorn residue and kernels. Also, when I showed up 5 mins before the 5:10pm showing, I was only person there, and was deeply surprised to find the seats hadn’t been cleaned by anyone. (6) right when I first entered the theater (haven’t been here before), I was the ONLY person in the lobby and walked up to the INFO desk because there’s no ticket monitor or separate ticket desk that you’d see in many other theaters. I asked where to get my ticket for the online purchase I made, and the girl ant the desk ignored me and kept playing on her phone instead. There’s no music or anything. It was silent. So I said, “Well, I guess I’ll just walk in.” And then she was like ::looks up:: OH! You get your ticket at the concessions stand over there.”
Welcome to your Luxury theatre, folks. I was disappointed that my movie started just a few minutes ago and I’m already in my car headed home. I haven’t gone to see a movie at a cinema since our son was born a year ago, and the first 15 minutes in this one was enough for me to decide to wait until the movie streams...
Read moreAs a movie lover, I like going to a theater, especially to see a new release of something as promising as Killers of the Flower Moon. Had never visited South County Cinemas before - other theaters are closer - but it wasn't showing anywhere else. The design is spacious and comfortable, the staff courteous and welcoming, seats comfortable enough. Alas the projection is the absolute worst I've ever experienced - poor focus (or resolution, I couldn't tell which), dim lighting, ridiculous color - and when the movie started (something made me think it might look better than the previews and advertisements) I very nearly got up and asked for a refund - but stayed, having driven this far to see something I really wanted to see. (The sound from other screens kept on intruding, but this is now common to most multiplexes.) Sorry to say, the viewing experience at this theater is unfortunately a disgrace - a terrible shame, since the location and facility and most everything else about it are good. But what use is a movie theater if the movies on the screens are...
Read moreReally awful website. So not being able to figure out the website to purchase a ticket in advance, I went to a 12:30 show. Very expensive even the senior price ticket. Any other discounts were not very obvious and not very substantial. The theater was pretty good. Seemed pretty clean. Stairs to seats were well lit. And although I dislike the now ubiquitous recliner seating, these seemed less awful than those at Showcase Cinemas. Decent popcorn and sound. Only 3 previews was a definite plus rather than sitting through a loop of a dozen junk films I will never see.
9/9/25 Update to previous comments. I was looking for matinee Wednesday to see Weapons or Caught Stealing at supposedly discounted Wednesday pricing. So I’m not surprised that this most expensive movie theater has no matinees for these 2 films. I don’t consider 7:45 PM and 4:45 PM matinees. I’ll be headed to the Showcase in Warwick for $5 admission for the 12:40 PM Weapons or the 1:10 PM Caught...
