You'll be disappointed if you go with Cox. We've had Cox for as long as I can remember, but their rates keep going up for lousy service. I work from home and am disconnected so often or deal with such lag. We pay for phone, TV, and internet.
What sent me over the edge was that an online chat agent accidentally shut down all my services. I called the 800 number and the first rep I spoke to charged me a $125 equipment fee again - even though I already had their old equipment - he said it was their only option to getting my original account back and restore my services. I was transferred to a woman who wasted time asking me all the same questions only to transfer me again. I finally ended up speaking to another woman who said their first employee set up 2 new accounts for me rather than reviving my original account. She was also shocked to hear I was charged for equipment fees. But she couldn't just refund my credit card, she said she could only put the credit back to my Cox account to pay for future bills.
But having changed accounts and then sent back to my old account, my billing history was wiped. So, they attempted to charge me for the month of June a second time. The $125 credit was posted to it. So, once again, I tried online chat and the rep named Carlos O. was (1) not understanding my issues, (2) misspelling everything, and (3) arguing with me. I explained I was double charged on equipment fees and double charged for the month of June - he kept saying I wasn't double charged on equipment fees because $125 was too low - it would have been upwards of $400.
After several hours on chat and on the phone, I realized how unhelpful and incompetent a lot of their technical staff are. Each person just kept making my issue worse. I have since switched to Verizon for phone, TV, and internet. Their pricing is cheaper and the employees I have dealt with thus far are actually professional and knowledgeable. No issues with internet yet either! My coworker also uses Verizon. So, here's my warning that will hopefully save you the headache - or I should say migraine - that you'd get from dealing with Cox.
EDIT: 07/12/2023 We terminated ALL our services in June and I returned the equipment on 06/13/2023, but they're still trying to charge us close to $300. They are charging equipment fees for the THIRD time. The first time was when we originally got Cox. The second time was when Cox accidentally turned off all our services and in order to get my account back, they said they had to charge us the equipment fee again that would be credited back to us - which they later said they could not credit back to us. Now, they're charging equipment fees AGAIN even though I returned the equipment and I have the receipt to prove it....
Read moreMost of these stores you need to go in or call the toll free number. My Wi-Fi was slowing down, because my kids are home for the summer, and want to download everything. My wife and I went in to SC Commons store, and received a new modem/router and two Contour boxes for $25 less per month than we were paying. Joe helped us at the store and gave us some discounts that we didn't know were available. Then you call the numbers they provide. One number was for the modem/router hookup. That hookup allowed me to get rid of my separate airport express router. My connection is much cleaner and faster now. The Contour was a separate number, with a different specialist. I was hooked up and ready to go with both in about 40 minutes. Stop trying to call the store. They are sales people, not technical specialists. Call the toll free numbers they give you and you will...
Read moreI purchased coxs services for 5 days before I got to know my landlord has free internet services. Then I disconnected the service and returned all my equipment. They got a $50.00 deposit at the time of purchase. When I disconnected the service they mentioned that they will credit that amount to my account which I didn’t receive until today, I had to dispute the charge from my credit card account. Now I receive emails and text messages telling I have an outstanding bill to pay. I only used the service for 5 days and I have to pay $35.00 dollars. I am not going to do that payment. I highly recommend this service if you want to get stressed and frustrated about a service you never received at the...
