I have been a loyal customer of Salk’s Ace Hardware in Wakefield, RI, for several years and have always appreciated the helpful and friendly staff. My family has lived on the same property for over a century, which means frequent visits for home improvement projects. Many of the employees even recognize us due to how often we shop there.
However, after my experience this evening around 5 PM, I regret to say that I will no longer be shopping at Ace Hardware. I was clearly racially profiled and followed by a female staff member for no reason. She did not approach me to offer assistance but instead stood nearby, pretending to be busy while keeping a close watch on me. When I asked if I was in her way, she said "no" and continued to follow me until I reached the register.
