I've been going to Pete at Klean Kutz for a little over a year and a half and the man can undoubtably cut hair. His haircuts are quality and he takes care of his customers. He's also extremely personable and up until most recently, runs his shop with efficiency and precision.
Anyway, the last time I was there the Sunday before Labor Day, will for sure, be the last time I am there. I visit Sundays from out of town once a week and plan my haircuts accordingly. After planning my haircut for this day, driving an hour to get there I found myself waiting with nearly 5-8 other individuals so I was aware I'd be waiting for probably 2 hours. I sat there and waited patiently as Pete went through haircut after haircut, understaffed as two of the girls that work for him took off which, in my experience has become a normal trend the last 3 visits to Klean Kutz. I count and figure I'm close to 6 or 7 in line. don't mind the wait though, so as I sit there, more people are coming, seeing the line and saying they will be back. I continue to wait, all the while thinking Pete is keeping tally of who is next because he does not have a sign in sheet. Until finally I think I'm up...then a guy and his kid are called next. Now, I'm almost positive I got there right before that guy, as I remember watching him walk in and ask before walking out to get lunch, but I think to myself, ok maybe they got there and went to get something to eat and came back previously. So I sit there. An hour later he finishes these two and calls another person and their kid, that I knew I was there before bc I watched them come in, and I vividly remember him telling this mom of 3 that it would be 2 hours and she should come back. At this point, a few people become upset. So, I ask Pete who is next following these people and he has no clue. Guessing, he has now placed me behind this mom, a guy in the back, and another family of 3 getting haircuts, now totaling 6 people! I've already waited 3 hours and this would put me back 3 more hours at minimum! I politely walked out for the final time.
Pete can cut hair, however, recently he has raised his prices to match the demand for his haircuts (great business, however). He frequently finds himself understaffed and therefore is missing out on the quality customer service and efficiency I have grown to personally enjoy over the course of the last year and a half. My advice for he and his business is to first come up with a way to sign in. A simple sign in sheet would have saved my experience that day. I'm not sure what's up with his staff, however, with the volume of people entering his smaller shop, he needs to hire people who want to work. I've enjoyed Pete and Klean Kutz for over a year and a half. However, I'll be taking my business elsewhere. He may not notice, but I would have been coming to him for the next 30 years and planned on bringing my kids. I cannot afford to lose 3 hours on a Sunday and come to find out I don't get my haircut anyway. I know he means well, but he's lost his touch on his way to becoming a bigger shop. Which unfortunately, happens to most small businesses. Can't completely blame him, but I won't be back....
Read moreI have been going to the Klean Kutz in Middlesex for years. They are good! I needed a haircut early so I checked out their opening times and saw that there was another one, with higher reviews also close in South Plainfield. Boy was I glad I did. There was inly one person there. I believe her name was Francene. She gave me an Outstanding haircut! I have a pet pieve that all my oast barbers dont seem to remember how my hair looked like when I sit in the chair. I keep my hair in front combed down and to the side. Every barber at the end combs my hair up and back, just like my dad used to make me wear it as a kid. She was the first to finish my hair like I came in and wanted . She was also very pleasant to converse with. I found my new haircutting...

To be honest I was skeptical going in to get my hair cut. I was traveling to NJ for a couple weeks, and didnt get time to get my haircut back home before leaving. Like many other men, my relationship with my barber back home is personal, I have been going to him for years and he is the only person I trusted with my hair. To say I was pleasantly surprised is an understatement. They know what they are doing. Got a clean high skin fade, and then trim up top with scissors. I rock a bun at the moment, and the nervousness involved with a trim up top was extreme. Professional, skilled, and friendly barber shop. If I'm back there at any point I would not hesitate to get cut there, but I dont plan on cheating on my...
