(EDIT: Was 5-Star, Now 1-Star. See reviews for details)
ORIGINAL 5-STAR REVIEW: A lady came to my house and sold my wife and I a time machine. Now, all we have to do is turn it on and our house magically goes back in time. Got a ton of dirt everywhere? Turn the machine on and return your home to a state before it got messy.
Excellent machine. Would time travel again.
NEW 1-STAR REVIEW: The base machine itself and the customer service are still 5-stars. It's a brilliant, versatile piece of technology and sending in parts for cleaning and repair (only had to do once so far) is fairly painless even though there is a moderate charge.
But the vacuum attachment (what Rainbow calls their "Power Nozzle") is AWFUL. It is the primary mechanism through which any significant amount of cleaning is done (95% of our house is covered in carpet), and it is by far the worst part of the entire RAINBOW experience. It clogs easily and needs to be thoroughly recleaned between nearly every vacuuming session (or multiple times during a single session depending on whether or not you're vacuuming up dog puke). The vacuum attachment is a neglected afterthought of an otherwise stellar vacuuming system, but because of its position of relevance within the rest of the vacuuming experience, it ruins it. If I paid $3000 for a vacuum, the vacuum head better feel like it's worth it... and right now, it just doesn't.
If I could leverage a Kirby Vacuum as the vacuum head and a Rainbow as the filtration system, that would be the perfect vacuum. The Rainbow system is virtually superior to the Kirby system in every way except for the actual vacuum mechanism, which is bad enough to make me actually consider going with a Kirby in the future. Yes, it's that bad.
OTHER TIPS AND INFO: The airflow/suction of the Kirby and Rainbow systems are so powerful that they actually accelerate the wear and tear of your carpet. Roughly 90% of the mass I vacuum up in any given session is carpet, not dirt. Both companies will explain that the presence of fine sand and dirt molecules hidden deep within the carpet will rapidly destroy it when walked on because the sharp microscopic edges cut away at the carpet over time... but what they fail to mention is that rapidly siphoning that dirt out of the carpet has the same (if not worse) effect. These excess carpet fibers quickly clog and jam up the Rainbow vacuum head "Power Nozzle" attachment, whereas the Kirby doesn't have that problem. The only way I can think of to accommodate the Rainbow's weaknesses in this regard is to have nothing touch the carpet except socks and whatever dust natural accumulates, a life-style that is impossible to pursue with 3 cats, 2 dogs, and a yard still full of dirt that turns to mud on a rainy day.
My wife and I plan on replacing nearly all (if not all) the carpet in our home in the near future. We're tired of the maintenance involved with carpet cleaning no matter how good our vacuum is. When that happens, which vacuum system will be more useful to us between the Kirby and the Rainbow? That's right, the Rainbow. Without the vacuum head attachment pulling the rest of the Rainbow experience down, it is clearly superior. By comparison, the Kirby would be little more than a $3000 decoration in a house with no carpet.
"Ah, but you can still use a Kirby to clean all your furniture!"
Yes, so can a Rainbow, and the moment you stop using Kirby's signature vacuum head system, they're on an even playing field behind the source of airflow is at the same distance in either case. And while Kirby needs to rely on regularly replacing expensive high-quality filters to keep up over time, Rainbow simply requires its water filter to be changed between vacuuming sessions. And Rainbow can act as a MAGNIFICIENT air purifier... a feature which Kirby has no answer for.
FINAL ADVICE: Don't install carpet in your home. Use a heated flooring system and something durable like tile if you can afford it. Buy an area rug if you want carpet somewhere (easier and cheaper to replace). THEN, get a...
Read moreI’ve been to Brooklyn, NY and I can say with confidence, Brooklyn from Rainbow of Utah is not the same. She’s clean, personable, caring, patient, and made my house smell great while demonstrating the Rainbow while-home cleaning system. From the beginning, she took off her shoes and got to work while conversing with us. Seeing what was trapped in our carpet was disgusting. We run our room a everyday, and yet, the amount of dust, hair, and filth we were laying our heads on was unfathomable. We can’t stop using our Rainbow now, and we run it all day, everyday while we’re at work. The warranty, maintenance, customer service. And opportunities that are provided make us lifelong customers and affiliates. I’m earning my rainbow for free, and my friends are definitely going to be doing the same.
If you’re tired of that weird outside air coming in, breathing issues, allergies, pet dander, the long hair trapped in the carpet, and every other gross thing that comes into the house, get a rainbow and tell everyone about it. It’s amazing and my only complaint is that I didn’t get a free one sooner.
Even still, Brooklyn has been in touch, following up, continuing to teach me, and gifting us stuff. Give them a shout and...
Read moreWe have had Rainbow Vacuums for more than 60 years. I love them but as I have gotten older we started using lighter (not so good) vacuums. My niece asked if her friend Brooklyn could come to our home and demo the new version. Knowing I would not purchase again, I agreed to the demo.
When they arrived Brooklyn asked to see our old Rainbow. It was about a 15 year old model. Since I already knew how good Rainbows were and how they worked she showed me how they have changed. The water system is now easy to use and no more heavy lifting. The brush system now has power assist so it's now easy to vacuum. All of the things I had a problem with were now fixed.
I was excited to buy a new Rainbow thanks to Brooklyn and my niece and have been using it daily ever since. They gave me a great price for my old machine which made it even more affordable. Thank you Brooklyn and Rainbow of Utah. My home never looked or...
