I am writing this review from the perspective of not having a complex reason for visiting the office, and I went to the office mid-morning on a rainy day midâweek.
We had a very good experience at this office. Security was kind and patient, and the man that helped us at the window was very kind, quick, and knowledgeable. There was plenty of signage at and in the elevators and on the way to the office to help us know where to go.
Something that made our visit so much easier was filling out our application online beforehand, and you can also make appointments online now as part of the process! They send you a check-in link about 30 minutes before your appointment, and then as soon as you are through security, you check in with the link on your phone, and it is your turn. There are also check-in kiosks available. If you arrive at the building without an appointment, you can scan a QR code at the elevator and get one, or just choose to wait for an available slot.
One downside is that the parking is $5 an hour. But that's pretty standard downtown. If you have an appointment, things arenât backed up, and you donât have a more complicated visit, then youâll definitely stay well within the hour. Paying for parking was pretty easy scanning the QR code in the lot and putting in my credit card info on my phone, and then it recognized when I left the lot and charged me accordingly.
I acknowledge that not everyone who visits this office will have access to devices or credit cards, but I was quite impressed with the efficiency and kindness of the employees that served us today, and that is what...
Read moreThis is the worst social security office in the country. I have adopted multiple children and everytime need to change their social security when their adoptions are complete. It normally is a one time appointment and smooth and nice. I had to come to this location this year because we moved here and they have made me come back over 5 times. They never answer the phone to make an appointment. I wait in line for 2 hours to make an appointment. I came with all the correct documents and they said they look like photocopies. They called the courthouse in Oregon and they are certified copies. They send me away to get another copy. I got it and it is identical to the one I already showed. I then wait for the birth certificate. They still sent me away when I had an appointment and told me to come back next month when they will have a better appointment for me. They see all my visits and I explain calmly that this is ridiculous. They kept repeating like robots âweâll see you next month at your appointmentâ. But Iâm here at my appointment. We are short staffed today. See you next month at your appointment. Because staff will magically be better next month? I just want to update my sonâs social security card and do my taxes. I will drive to Oregon and file there before I come back to this location. They have to do it better because it...
Read moreThe weapons check as you go into the office is fairly invasive, but it is a federal building, so⌠â Donât wear a belt, or have it off and in your hand when they let you in. â wear shoes without metal, or be prepared to take them off (and a dirty floor is not an allowed excuse to not do so) â Empty your pockets before you leave your car â Make sure your jacket pockets are empty and be prepared to take it off (they donât like it if you forget something in your jacket pockets, and they will let you know!!) â If you have a watch, either leave it in the car, or put it in a pocket with your keys (that you have to empty into a bucket when you are ready to enter the office) â Ladies: now is the time to put your wallet and phone in a small bag and only bring that purse with you. They will open and go through EVERYTHING in your purse, including taking EVERYTHING out so they can look at and feel all objects looking for weapons (and documents, donât know why, but they even looked under and around my service dogâs vest for âhidden documentsâ) â They will do the same to backpacks, bags - EVERYTHING is searched more thoroughly than the TSA. â Guys, they will take your wallet, and go through and over every little pocket and hide-hole in that thing as well, so be prepared.
At least you know you will be safe once...
