The newest Costco outlet in the Metro Detroit area, it is also the coolest, weirdly most-hidden of gems, and closest Warehouse to the City. Anyone driving along the Lodge Freeway could be forgiven for having passed this retail membership warehouse perhaps hundreds of times since it opened in early 2024 and not known it was there: it has no signage visible from the sunken speedway canyon, also known as M-10, as it sits with its main entrance off the northeastern Service Dr just north of Eight Mile Rd and Northland Dr on the border of Southfield with Oak Park. If you are a Costco Member, do not pass this locale again without making it a point to stop and check it out!
Inside you'll find many of the same products in bulk quantities on offer as can be had at other Costcos; however, if you need freshly prepared foods, pharmacy, optical, consumer and personal electronics, or a large and varied selection of personal care products, then you may find yourself disappointed. They have been replaced here with expanded varieties and a deeper selection of products useful for myriad businesses: commercial kitchen appliances and fridge/freezers, heavy-duty cookwares, the gamut of disposable food preparation supplies and packaging, professional janitorial cleaning products, tissues, towels, wipes galore for dispensers of all types, and the list continues. Many products, though ostensibly intended for and marketed towards businesses, are suitable for personal household consumption and use.
There is a dry and refrigerated foods section easily on par with that of other Warehouses of this storied and beloved marque. The cavernous dairy and fresh produce walk-in cooler inspires a sense of awe and majesty that the attached photograph fails to properly capture, so one must pass through the threshold and meander among its many aisles to grasp this fundamental tautology: this place means BUSINESS!
In sum, if you're tired of the trash at Middlebelt Rd and I-96 and you're weary of waiting in lines, sandwiched in the crowds between Stephenson Hwy and I-75, then pay this peaceful oasis a visit and see if it mostly fits your needs. The eminently cordial and professional staff will be happy to welcome you and assist you with spirits not-yet-drained by the brutish hordes that flock to other, less conveniently located Costcos for denizens of the...
Read moreTerrible Experience at Costco – Unfair Accusations and Poor Customer Service. I recently visited Costco, which was one of the worst shopping experiences ever. After spending a significant amount of time picking out my items, I proceeded to checkout, the policy at the checkout line is/that you need to place your cart in one line by the cashier and you will be on the opposite side of the cashier line, and the cashier will scan the items and all you have to do is (pay for them) I paid for everything and headed toward the exit. At the exit gate like usual, an employee stopped there to check the items and the receipt and rudely accused me of not paying for one item. They made me feel very bad, even though it was likely just an honest mistake—either a cashier error or a missed scan. Instead of handling the situation politely, he treated me with suspicion and demanded that check my receipt and items all over again. After he checked my cart 3 times, he told me to go back and pay for the item (Aluminum oven tray) cost $4.99 I took the item out of the cart handed it to him and told him I didn’t want it anymore.
The way they handled the situation was humiliating and completely unnecessary. If Costco trusts its members so little, maybe it should improve its checkout process instead of embarrassing customers at the door. I expected better from a store that claims to value its members. This experience has made me reconsider whether I want to shop at Costco again. Terrible customer service and an unpleasant atmosphere—I wouldn’t recommend it unless you enjoy being treated like a shoplifter after spending your hard-earned money there. 1/5 stars – Will think twice...
Read moreI freaking LOVE Costco's Business Centers! As a former employee of 18 years, I will never not brag about Costco. They just do it right. They treat their employees right and offer such a great quality and value to their members.
My favorite thing about the Business Center is the variety of drinks, snacks, office supplies and bulk quantities of supplies geared towards small businesses. I've purchased items for my online sales. I've purchased snacks to donate to our local police department or for personal use. I appreciate that they have some core Costco items as well (shampoo, conditioner, personal items, etc). Tofu is a great price. The 20lb boxes of pasta is a great price. Everything is great!
The staff is super helpful, too! It was a pleasure speaking with Clay for a while about my previous Costco experience.
Anyone with a Costco membership is welcome. Keep in mind that there are no ancillary departments (optical, hearing aid, meat, deli, pharmacy, food court, etc). Please don't complain about it, either. It's called a...
