As a kid, I got my haircut at the same place my grandfather and father did. Originally, it was a small tailor at the corner of Edwards road and 29 in Taylors. A smoky place where men gathered to catch up, joke, tell stories, and get a shave. It smelled of Barbasol and Tiger Balm. It felt unhurried and comfortable. I was lucky enough to take my own son there when he was a child.
The Bareknuckle Barbershop at Drayton is the closest I've come to that experience in a long time. In almost 25 years of looking, it is the absolute best place i've found in Spartanburg where a MAN can get a decent haircut.
Most men are very picky about who cuts their hair, and if it's not good, they'll simply ghost the place with no regrets. However, we're incredibly loyal to a good place. Bareknuckle can do the cool cuts if you want, but what they excel at is a classic mens haircut.
From the moment you walked in, you're greeted with a warm and friendly atmosphere, especially now that they've moved. The staff at Bareknuckle Barbershop are not only highly skilled but also incredibly personable. They take the time to understand exactly what you're looking for and deliver results that exceed expectations. I've been using Chelsie Silvers for a few years now, and I appreciate that she is always working to upgrade her skills. Plus, she always makes sure I'm satisfied with my cut. Now that she has completed her Barber Certification, she can offer excellent straight razor shaves and supper smooth and clean cuts.
The shop itself is impeccably clean and well-maintained, with a stylish and comfortable interior that makes you feel right at home. The attention to detail in both the decor and the service is truly impressive. Yes, they do offer a free drink with your cut, including beer if you want it, but that's a relatively small perk compared to the services and the atmosphere they have.
Whether you're looking for a traditional cut or something more contemporary, they have you covered. Overall, Bareknuckle Barbershop is a top-tier establishment that I would highly recommend to anyone in the...
Read moreI had a haircut with Rose Williams today. I chose her when booking my appointment this morning because she had open spots available in the afternoon. The appointment started off shaky when I saw her outside smoking with vinyl/medical gloves on as I was walking in. She asked if I had an appointment, I told her my name, and she said that she would be inside in a minute. She came in at the time of my appointment (I was about 10 minutes early) and went to her station. She tried to cover the smell of smoke with Lysol. The attempt was not successful. She then came to me and said she was ready. I followed her to her station and questioned her glovesâŚshe hadnât changed them since smoking outside. She said that she washed them. I asked her âyou washed your gloves?â. She mumbled something about it being ok and safe because they were nonporous. She did offer to change them, which I did request that she did. I havenât ever had a haircut by a barber with vinyl gloves on, but figured she had a reason to be wearing them. The haircut went well enough, and my cut/style looked ok when she was finished.
HOWEVER, after getting home and showering/washing out the product she put in my hair, I noticed that she shaved super high up on the front of my head/face and it now looks like I have a receding hairline. She covered up how high she shaved when putting product into my hair.
DO NOT USE ROSE WILLIAMS AT BAREKNUCKLE BARBERSHOP. I guess it makes sense now that she had so many openings on the day of, and I was able to get a same day...
Read moreIâm typically not someone to leave a negative review unless the experience was totally awful. I like to support small businesses and leave positive reviews to help them succeed but this place does not deserve to succeed based on my experience today. When I made the appointment this morning over the phone I was sure to tell them my son was only 19 months and to make sure that wouldnât be an issue. The lady on the phone just said as long as he wasnât going to cry (understandable, as nobody wants to hear a crying baby while theyâre getting their own haircut). I drove from Greenwood to Spartanburg to bring him here and enjoy a day in Spartanburg with my son. As some of the other reviewers said itâs a little hard to find and I ended up getting caught at a light that caused me to be a few minutes late to the appt. Without even acknowledging my son I was told I was late and he wouldnât have time to do the cut. Another customer was kind enough to trade spots with me (Iâm sure he could see I was stressed). I was then told that there was a policy that no parents could accompany their child for a cut. I wasnât told that on the phone and thatâs a pretty major policy to not go mentioned when arranging for a toddlerâs haircut. It was obvious this person just didnât want to cut a toddlerâs hair. I had chosen this place for an elevated experience for me and my son but Iâve never felt so unwelcome in a place that I only wanted to support. We left without service or an apology. Will...
