In a nutshell: before you spend your precious family time driving to this place for a particular piece, ask if it's broken. They do not voluntarily advertise items as not functioning as designed: rather, they believe that it is not lying if they just conveniently omit the fact that it is broken.
This was my first experience with Still Goode. I had a nice budget to furnish my house, but I like a deal if I can get it. I've been watching Still Goode's website and other ads for the past month, looking primarily for an armoire style entertainment center for my living room. We found the perfect piece for our living room at SG or so it seemed.
By definition, an armoire door closes. That is precisely why we are looking for the armoire style center--because we'll use the TV in the cabinet only rarely, and we want our living room to look clean by keeping the door on the armoire closed.
The ad on SG's website and related ad on CL did not mention a flaw that directly affected the functionality of the entertainment center. Interestingly, after the following events occurred, SG quickly updated its website to confess that the piece is broken and does not work. Unfortunately, SG's decision to be honest came after I wasted 2 hours of my family time driving to and from SG's store.
So once more, there was ZERO indication that the piece I wanted was broken. I even called before I left my house to confirm SG still had this piece. I made it clear I consider my time to be quite important. Yet no mention that the armoire does not close properly.
But once my wife, my 5 and 6 year old kids, and I had made the 45 minute drive to SG, they quickly discuss the defect only AFTER they see we are having difficulty making it close. SG then says that is why it's such a great deal--because it doesn't work. The last time I checked, the epitome of a GOOD deal doesn't involve a product that clearly doesn't work.
Additionally, SG says it discounted the piece because of the defect, but they assured us the fix would be easy and implied the cost of repair would not offset the discount. First, according to my woodworking friends who have seen the pictures, that was a lie. Second, if the fix is so easy and justified given the value, why doesn't SG perform the repair in order to sell a piece that doesn't perform like it came from the dump? I don't know.
Here's the best part though. The lady behind the counter acted astonished when I questioned the store's honesty. I asked her how am I supposed to discern from the web page that the armoire didn't work. Her response was priceless and ensured I would NEVER give this place my hard-earned money. She said that because the picture didn't depict the armoire in a totally closed position, I should have assumed it didn't work. For $1700, I think I am permitted to believe it works.
But like I said, the company has now confessed its mistake by changing the website ad to disclose that the armoire is no longer Intended to close. Still a lie. It in fact is INTENDED to close--it just does NOT close. I'm certain that SG believes this justifies the original lie.
So, if you have money to spend on used furniture, be patient and buy from the owner directly via some other platform. Alternatively, shop at SG but assume there is a defect in each piece that SG is concealing from you. Inspect those pieces carefully and press SG for the truth--otherwise you're left to "assume" that each piece is seriously flawed.
I don't treat people like this in my business--never would. This was astonishing. I'll spend my...
Read moreThis is the worst consignment experience I have ever had! I was willing to do business with Still Goode, and I had agreed to drop off hundreds of items for them to consign. When I orginally called they told me the only way to drop off items that week was to deilver them in a couple of hours. This was not an option, and this was due to the amount of items I needed to consign. The earliest they could schedule the next appointment was for the following week. After loading several hundred items into my van on the following week, I had called them to explain that I more than likely would be late when it came to dropping off all of my consignment goods. I had wanted to drop off a little later that day.. When I explain to the lady I was going to be late, and she started to treat me in a very rude manner, and that if I wanted to reschedule the delivery it would be 5 to 6 weeks out. Naturally, I was a little upset, and started to explained to her that Still Goode needed to be a little more flexible to accomidate my needs, and this is mainly because I had so kany items to drop off, and that there store is 1 1/2 hours from my home. Her employee then hung the phone up right in my face. I called the employee back to deterrmine if we just got disconnected, the employee explained the reason she hung up was because I talk too much, and I had called to reschedule my delivery. I explained to her if she needs to re-think how her beliefs in customer service if she believes hanging up on a customer is justified because they are calling to reschedule a consignment drop off, or taliking to much.. If this is how they treat customers before we even get our consignment items into their shop, I don't even want to know what the next issue is going to be. Take your consignments elsewhere! This company does not respect their consignees, and they 100% do not work around your schedule. If the owner reads this, don't believe anything the employee is telling you. I heard her talking to someone while I was on the phone with her, and she lied about how the conversation...
Read moreMy Mother purchased an area rug from StillGoode approximately 5 months ago. When she purchased it she noticed that there was some wear and tear; also some old water stains on the back of it. She liked the rug and decided to buy it anyway. She decided to put it back on consignment with StillGoode because she wanted a different look and add some new furnishings to the room she had it in. She arrived yesterday at her appointment time to be told that her appointment wasn't until the following day which wasn't correct. She discovered later that day, after she left, they had in fact changed her appointment via an email. This should have been done with a phone call seeing that such short notice was given. My Mother asked if she could please not be asked to return the following day as it was pouring rain. The lady agreed. This same lady assessed the rug while my Mother looked around their store with the intention of making another purchase. She had seen a painting online that she liked. The lady called my Mother over to her to inform her that they couldn't take the rug. She stuck her finger up through a hole in it and remarked on the water stains. My Mother explained that the rug was not in the best condition when she purchased it from them. The lady that helped her would not listen to what she had to say and was very dismissive. My Mother told her that she has spent thousands of dollars at their store and she would never be setting foot in it again. The rug was sold in poor to fair condition and my Mother only had it in her possession for five months and took very good care of it. Being a loyal customer meant absolutely nothing to them. I hope others that read this be very careful if they purchase from StillGoode. Be sure to take good clear photos and document the condition of the item you purchase. My sister and I will no longer shop there either. I think it's a horrible way to treat a loyal customer and especially an elderly woman. I hope the lady that "assisted" my Mother thinks...
