I came here today for the first time in a shameful amount of months only to find that the Khan family who created this beautiful local institution had moved away. They were such lovely people and my mother and I had cultivated a 9 year friendship with. It was a privilege to grow up alongside their children, however tangentially it may have been, and to see them all blossom into equally wonderful human beings.
I was admittedly nervous to visit after discovering the change in ownership, but was deeply relieved to find that the new staff was just as courteous, the location just as beautiful, and the food just as delicious. It seems they made a terrific decision in choosing a successor, people with the same level of care put into each dish.
The spanakopita is still the best you will find in the Houston area (2nd place goes to Niko Niko's), the hummus still wonderfully creamy and delicate, and though I don't personally eat meat, my mum can vouch that the grilled chicken pita panini is still fantastic too. I will certainly miss the Khan's, but I look forward to seeing how the new owners will evolve this space over time, and will definitely be coming back to raid the dessert area on a day I am much less rushed. My craving for melomakarouna will...
Read moreThis place is a quintessential only in Houston gem. Greek food and some very pure hard to find European cakes and desserts. Who would have thought that the best apple pie in town comes from a Greek Bakery run by a wonderful family. This Pie has a shortbread cookie top and as never had any leftovers anywhere I've taken it even when it was just two people. Their pastries are what I get more because the cakes are Exquisite. From the mocha hazelnut Ferrero Rocher to the marzipan princess cake or the rainbow cookies everything is absolutely spectacular and so rare to find around town these days. Dimitra is a master chef and had her own cooking channel on YouTube. This is the place that just started making fresh Nutella baklava. She is always innovating.
The food is great as well. You can get Lentil or Greek soups, gyros, or souvlaki chicken or a number of Greek foods. All good and freshly sourced. These are people who used to own a farm upstate.
Plus they also have Greek desserts like Ekmek, Greek custard pie, rainbow marzipan, and rugelach.
Trust me you will not be disappointed. Plus this family is so genuinely...
Read moreI've driven past this place for a year always thinking it was closed. We looked up the hours online and decided to give it a try since the reviews led us to believe this was a place that we couldn't miss trying. The young lady running the counter was exceptionally polite and friendly. The atmosphere was a bit darker than I prefer, and they turned on music as soon as we walked in. The menu is fairly simple and comparable to other Greek restaurants. Pricing is a bit higher than I think it's worth. The menu states it's a 25-30 minute wait for any of their kebab options. Considering there was only one other table occupied, with three people, there was no reason it should have taken that long for the two of us. I ordered the ground beef kebabs, the dude ordered their burger. Both were over seasoned and over done. The rice on my plate was over seasoned as well. The veggies were okay, but I'm pretty sure they used at least half a bell pepper and red onion on my plate. Overall ok, wait staff was exactly what you'd expect from an independent restaurant, but not somewhere I'm dying...
