What can I say about Megan at Island life Yoga, other than I’m obsessed and she is one of the greatest positive influences I ever had in my life. Not only is she an amazing, knowledgeable trainer, but she also has become a mentor and great friend. Nine months ago, her studio quickly became a safe space for me. When you walk in you notice quickly there are no mirrors. Which helps enforce the positive body and mind energy that helps you focus on why you are there. To improve your body as a whole, not just for vanity. When I started my new healthy lifestyle a year ago, I ran into her outside her studio. She stopped me, and was like you look so healthy and happy, what are you doing? I explained I was over feeling “old” and it was time to change before I hit 40. That I had started dieting and walking, but I was interested in starting to see her for personal training once I hit my first goal of 50 lbs gone. A month later, I emailed her. I have now lost an additional 50lbs, 44 inches, and gained a lot of muscle under her training. What’s best about training with her is that she takes the time to get to know you and your body. She formulates great workouts for you at your current level and will even give you homework. These are not easy, I often laugh at what she thinks I can do, then she immediately proves that I actually can, and I’m shocked every time. Although I had started my healthy lifestyle change 3 months before I started going in for strength training, she went through my nutrition tracking apps and helped figure out ways to involve more protein, my least fav food group, to not be scared of eating fats, and actually told me to eat more. What she taught me the most besides macros is balance and to still enjoy life with the occasional taco or pizza slice. As I said, she is more than just a personal trainer, you will absolutely love the results (this isn’t the first time I have lost weight, but is the first time I have felt this strong, healthy and happy), investing in her was the best decision I ever made. And I will be a happy customer for years. Don’t walk… run… actually, you can walk… I don’t run… to Megan at...
Read moreWe cannot summon a single negative complaint about the retreat. Yoga: The group size was spot on and the 2x daily practices were heaven. We both loved the warrior workshop and have carried your advice into class since our return. I thought Jen’s art projects added a welcome playful, thoughtful and spiritual dimension to the retreat that captured the essence of that special week. Free time: The cenotes excursion was mind blowing and we thought the two trips included in the price was the perfect amount. We never felt over-scheduled or harried. Copal Resort: We were wary about the all-inclusive aspect where the food can sometimes cater- down to the least adventurous palates, but this was not that. Not even close. Reserving the entire villa for our group alone fostered a closeness that carried over into the yoga practice and downtime. The communal dining provided a welcome opportunity to hear our fellow yogis on a deeper level which grew daily. I can’t add anymore about the food, service, locale and staff than has already been said in a hosanna chorus since the moment we arrived. It was just outstanding. Thank you again for all the effort, imagination and creativity you poured into building that magical week. I left wishing we had “just one more day,” which is the highest compliment. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of...
Read moreRead moreMy favorite studio ever! I joined Island Life about 4 months ago when I moved into the Soulard neighborhood, and now I take classes 2-3 times a week. I tried it out because the location is so convenient to my apartment, and now I won't go anywhere else because I just love the way Megan runs her studio. Workouts are challenging but she offers plenty of modifications, and Megan always keeps things fresh, mixing in new techniques with traditional exercises and poses. My favorites are the evening vinyasa yoga and pilates classes, but I also love catching a morning hatha yoga class. Also, can't say enough amazing things about the community at Island Life: the studio seems to attract the warmest, kindest, most welcoming people. As someone new to the city and the neighborhood, it's been great to make new friends, hear about the latest local events, and get delicious restaurant recommendations from my yoga buddies. Finally, I appreciate that Megan takes client health and safety very seriously; she requires masks in accordance with local public health regulations, ensures mats are spaced 6 feet apart, runs air purifiers, and cleans the studio after every class. Overall, if you're looking for a relaxed and welcoming space for yoga with a top notch instructor, check out...
