I visited Sucker Punch Comics on September 2nd 2025, and this will mark a day where the rare magic of feeling like a little kid again, was restored. But unfortunately it swiftly was taken away, and replaced with resentment and hurt, due to a rude encounter that hurt that "little kid" spirit within me.
I woke up with a clear agenda I wanted to complete that day, it was to finish my school day and finally purchase the comic book I've been waiting for months to finally own. This brand new comic, is a large leap in the comic book world, the first issue, the first leap--the first step to a brand new batman, Batman issue 1. If only I could give it to my 8 year old self, he would be especially delighted.
So out of pure excitement I rushed to go get an "hours" old comic book that I've been anticipating for so long already. So I plopped down on one of their provided couches and I read the first few pages, while poking my dad multiple times just to say "look at this new thing they added! This is so cool!".
But then I noticed a man walked in who appeared to be the owner, he was taller than the average guy and had plastic, glossy black glasses and he asked the cashier "Did he pay for what he's reading?" just loud enough for me to hear. And after a few seconds of silence, he peaked over the counter, to look at me and said
"Hey. you can't just sit down and read our comics without buying it. This is not a library. You're allowed to browse a comic, but you can't sit down and read it's entirety."
My heart honestly sank and I instantly felt hurt and sad. I understand their reasoning for notifying me of this, but there was no reason for being rude to a customer.
For some reason, I thought he was going to ask "what did you think of the new batman comic?" but instead I felt hostility and also un-welcomed in the store. So I awkwardly bought the comic from the cashier (the one who he previously asked if I bought the comic book before I went to read it), then I went home with a little sadness, knowing my inner child was hurt.
If I were to be honest, I lost my love for this store, and I truly believe they lost a loyal customer that day.
Edit:
Thank you Sucker Punch Comics for responding to my review. But I genuinely did not see your sign. Me and my dad parked in the parking lot at the back of your store, and entered through the opened, back entrance. I searched for the new Batman #1 comic on the rack that you keep your new issues on.
I couldn't find it, so I asked the cashier where I could find it. He pointed me to the small rack facing the front entrance, and there I found the comic I was looking for (Batman #1). I mention all of this because from my point of view, from when I entered your store through the back entrance, I did not see any of your mentioned signs.
Only after I went to the counter and bought the comic, I saw the sign, hidden from my sight by the couch and it's extended back. So I genuinely did not mean to do any wrong by your store. I saw the two couches put out at your store, and I saw it just like any other customer would, as an invitation to sit down and read one of your provided comics, with the intention of always purchasing it after you've read it.
Because almost all of us fellow customers, absolutely love to support small businesses like yours. But I still hold strong to a belief that's even closer to my heart, even more than my love for supporting small businesses. And that belief is respect, and it being mutual between parties.
I believe that was not present in my visit due to your unnecessary rudeness, and I still carry resentment towards your store...
Read moreThis place is awesome! The staff is super friendly and the store itself is clean and modern, while feeling like a time capsule. They have an extensive selection of comic books new and old, as well as graded slabs and grails. There’s also a bunch of stuff available from 80s and 90s that a guy who grew up going to Kay Bee Toys really appreciates, not just for myself but that I can share the experience with my kids now. Everything from action figures, to vintage video games, to VHS tapes, movie posters, hot wheels, sports and trading cards, Funko pops and more! Walking through the store feels partially like walking through a museum. They have more than filled the void Timeless Journey left in Stamford years ago. What a welcome addition...
Read moreHighly recommend Sucker Punch Comics. My girlfriend and I went on a whim yesterday and ended up walking out with tons of goodies. Max was such a cool dude. He was so helpful and friendly and the prices for everything were great too. I walked out with a mix of underground comics and some old Archie’s. They also sell collectible toys, video games, playing cards, and even have an old-school pinball machine you can play. We will definitely be back. Check it out next time...
