The trip it self was lovely I was backpacking out with my sister one night on the swift camp creek trail #219. We hit the bank of a creek and couldnāt find the trail so we ended up hiking through the creek, sometimes being up to our hips. We camped not far from the taller waterfall in the area where it seemed many had camped before at least 30 feet above the creek and 350 from the gorge walls. It started to rain and pour by then a flash flood had started and if we didnāt get out faster we wouldāve been swept with the current all our food, clothes and tent were swept away as we ran for higher ground. If we didnāt here people walking earlier we would have never found part of the trail. We climbed and waited out the storm in Bearpin branch archeological sight which at the time was comical that itās 3 am and weāve come up on a old moonshine still. We waited for day light and soon found the path back . But many other people were lost and having trouble navigating these unmarked paths . Itās dangerous in many areas because it is only sand and limestone. The trip definitely gave me a fear for my life. Iām not sure if I will ever come back to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIf anyone is trying to make a reservation for the Gorge Underground, donāt. As far as Iām concerned, you canāt even make a reservation to even do it. If you go to their website, it lists this place as something to do and prompts you to make a reservation. When doing so, it transfers you to a different website that is not secured and gives you an error page. I tried to email them via their Contact page but I never got a response. When you call Red River Gorge, it says that they are closed due to COVID-19 and gives you a number to call for general questions. When I did this, I got a VERY rude person who interrupted me and said that they have absolutely nothing to do with the Gorge Underground. When I asked if they had a number for me to call since one wasnāt listed but yet the Gorge Underground is ON THIER website, he said no and was just very rude. Not sure why itās listed on their website and thereās no one for you to ask questions. Iām also not sure as to why itās so hard to make a simple reservation. Iām VERY unhappy and Iāve never even visited this area, nor will I ever...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis was the perfect place for a family outing on a warm day in June! Because we had two small children who probably couldnāt make the hike, we opted for the sky lift. I will warn you that the seats have large gaps between the bottom and the back and the railing is pretty small. So you might want to look at pictures before you decide whether your child is old enough to do this!
The write up was beautiful! It provided a little shade and a nice breeze! Not to mention a gorgeous view! If youāre scared of heights, this might not be your thing! But I thought it was great fun!
At the top, we enjoyed walking across the natural Bridge all the way to the little gazebo. We took plenty of pictures and then continued to explore. We also enjoyed walking the opposite direction and getting to see the natural Bridge from a far!
Hubby and I love a nice challenging hike, which Iāve heard this is. Hopefully, we can return at some point without the kids and...
