After reading some of the reviews I was nervous about our reservation to the Black Bear Cabin. However, after the super easy check in, we were given directions to our Cabin, which was about 15 minutes away, we were pleasantly surprised! The drive up to the Cabin was a little rough if you don't have 4 wheel drive but we made it ok with my Chevy Traverse (4 wheel drive is a MUST in the Winter) and walking in we were so Happy with our choice. There was NOTHING we would have changed about it. The Cabin was extremely clean and well kept, we saw no traces of any mice as listed in the other cabin reviews or even spider webs. Yes we actually expected to see those, lets be real you are in the middle of a Forest, but NOTHING! The downstairs consisted of the living room with a flat screen TV, DVD Player, books and games. We brought our Firestick and connected to the provided WIFI, the Kitchen was fully equipped with everything we needed, dishes, pots pans, silverware, even spices and coffee filters. A Full bathroom downstairs with the most amazing shower ever, bring your own towels and wash cloths, and one of our most favorite parts was the personal sauna, we spent a lot of time in this!! The upstairs has 2 bedrooms and a half bath! The ladder to the upstairs is not made for the mobility impaired as it is just like a normal ladder, however that is very clearly listed in the description and the beds were amazing. The hot tub was perfect after long days in the car or hiking, it was very well kept and clean, also for those like me, YES the lights did work We definitely give this cabin 10 out of 10 stars and are already planning a return stay with them next year for Vacation!

We stayed 3 nights in Peaceful Waters cabin. It was stressed that extra cleaning had happened, yet immediately we found mouse droppings, a dirty plate, a pile of dirt on the floor and dirt in the couch as if a dust pan had been spilled there. We were on edge due to this and looked at the sheets, where we found lots of hair, some looked human and some looked like animal hair. There was toothpaste on the walls in the bathroom. On the mattress protector we found blood, small drop but definitely looks like blood. We called, didn't hear back. Upon checkout, we mentioned the issues, and she said they tried calling and someone apparently went in and determined it wasn't blood. All dirt and blood was left. They entered, apparently, without us knowing. We thought they'd at least come clean or apply a refund. Nothing. Just a, "We cleaned...and the lady didn't think that was blood." Also, basement toilet rocks... shouldn't be used. And used toilet paper rolls are what were left, not new ones.

We stayed in Black Bear Cabin over the weekend. Based on some of the Airbnb reviews we were a little hesitant, but it ended up being a great cabin and an all around great stay! Check in and out were smooth and easy! I really felt like the listing photos undersold the cabin a bit, as it was definitely larger in person than the photos showed. The tv had also been updated since the listing photos which was a nice surprise. The cabin was clean, with lots of toilet paper and towels and clean linens. The hot tub and sauna were both wonderful and clean as well! Overall I felt like the cabin was a great value for the price. The communication between staff was very helpful when we were worried about potentially checking in late, and everything went really smoothly. Obviously it’s a cabin and not a 5 star hotel, so not everything is brand spanking new, but everything was clean and functional with several extra items stocked in case you had forgotten your own. We will definitely be back soon!

Before I begin this review, I'd like to say that everyone I spoke with at the office of Scenic Cabin Rentals was very kind and a pleasure to speak with. The cabin we rented allowed our dogs (for a fee), which was a huge plus. The area itself has grown little over the past 30 years, a gas station, a couple of gift shops, that's about it, really. Now, on to the nitty.

We came for Father's Day weekend of '18 and rented Poplar Place (two cabins in one, 'Bearly Irresistable' and 'Totally Cozy'. I'll break the review up between these two, as they each had their own issues:

Bearly:

*Jacuzzi on/off switch was missing. The handyman (nice elderly guy) came out to fix it and told us to just plug and unplug it when we wanted to use it. The power cord was inside and under the tub, but you could reach it if you didn't mind running the risk of electrocution. My wife met with him and was able to refrain from asking if she should shake the soap off before plugging in the jets. *The jacuzzi bath's faucet was very loose and almost fell off. *The linens (sheets and hand towels) were dirty. *There was no cutting board, big minus for anyone that plans to cook their meals. Knives and potato peeler were dull. Several pieces of cookware (pots and pans) were rusty. The refrigerator didn't have rails for the door shelves (there were a couple of cries from condiments falling out onto little toes). *The master bedroom door sticks on the floor and would barely shut (either the door, the jamb, or the floor isn't square). *The AC did not get the space very cool at all, especially compared to the other side (Totally Cozy cabin, their AC blasted cool air very well!). *Finally, the top step of the deck stairs leading to the lower level was broken. It is a safety hazard.

Totally Cozy:

*Master bath shower leaked WATERFALLS into the basement, so they had to all share a shower. Huge inconvenience and mess. *They didn't have kitchen towels. *The AC in their loft didn't blow cool air. *Their sheets had a dirty tissue on them. (Housekeeping sucked...) *The downstairs TV didn't work and the TV remote upstairs was missing batteries.

For both cabins: *Housekeeping was called and answered re: bringing new hand towels and sheets, but did not show up the first time as agreed. *There is one key per cabin, so plan accordingly if you have multiple adults that may be coming and going.

I lodged our complaints with the rental management staff who apologized and mentioned that they were considering dropping the owner of the cabin from their list of rentals because the owner wasn't keeping the place maintained. They did eventually issue me a $50 return, for the cost of housekeeping. No other compensation was offered.

Despite the complaints we had, we made the best of it and all had a great time, as the weather was nice and we were able to go do most of the activities we had planned.

UPDATE

Management reimbursed an additional $100 (total of $150). I guess 10% off beats a blank. I just hope SCR gets the cabin fixed and nobody gets hurt on...

If I could give zero stars I would. Worst cabin rental experience I have ever had.

Several things wrong with the cabin and the customer service. We get to our cabin roughly around 4:30 pm on our arrival date and immediately notice it was freezing inside. Temp inside cabin said mid 50s.

The heat in the place doesn't work. We even tried the emergency heat option. It also doesnt work. That night, even with a fire burning we couldn't get the temp inside to above 59 degrees. It was miserable.

The next day it hovers at roughly 64. So we call down around 930 am, since the cold woke us up early. Didn't get anyone to answer the phone. So we called again and left a message telling them it was freezing and the heat wasn't working. We leave for the day to explore the red river gorge and decide on our way holme we would see if the rental agency was open. So we stop by and it is, someone is inside and we tell them our problem.

They had received our message and sent someone up without even calling us back. They then offer to refund us for the the rest of our trip, however we drove 3 hours to get to this location and didn't not want to waste the trip so we declined. They then offer to relocate us to their other available cabin but it's about 15 minutes away from our current one and had a gas fireplace. The only reason we chose this rental agency was due to a few of their cabins having our two must haves: a Jacuzzi and a wood burning fireplace. So we had to decline that as well or waste the 30 dollars worth of wood we brought.

So we head back to the cabin and it's mid to high 60s in the place. No sign of anyone having been there besides us. We call back and tell them that, so they said they would send someone up with space heaters to help heat the place, or they offered to refund that night if we wanted to leave early. So not even the whole trip refunded, even though the first night was miserable. By this point it was too late to leave and get home before dark so we stayed. They failed to ever bring us space heaters and it stayed in the 60s in our cabin for the next two nights.

They don't care about their guests comforts nor actually providing decent customer service.

The cabin itself was awful. The door had a hole in it above the handle and a crack from top to bottom that let the cold in. The hot water stayed hot/warmish in the showers for 4 mins, we timed this. We couldn't even fill the tub more than an inch high before the water was freezing cold.

There was so many more issues but it's not worth my time to put on here.

LONG STORY SHORT : Don't rent from this company. They don't care about their guests comforts. 60 degree weather inside a cabin is freaking miserable when it's 20 degrees and...

My boyfriend and I stayed in A-Mountain View for 2 nights and our stay wasn't the greatest. First I will say the rate per night for this cabin was overpriced in my opinion. Cost me a total of $352 for 2 nights and the cabin was not up to par for it to be priced like this. Upon entry of the cabin, all you got was a HUGE wiff of a musty smell. That alone was a big turn off. As we made our way into the kitchen was the living room and stairs to loft. We did not use the loft as there was no tv and it was too hot even with the AC running. The tv was maybe 18" to 24" so very very small and lacking for the price we paid. The kitchen was fine; had everything we needed but the cookware definitely needed replaced. The couch has seen better days. It was completely worn and sunken in. I could not sit on it long enough or my bottom would hurt. The bedroom we slept in was on the first level and was incredibly small and crowded. The ceiling was low and all that was in there was the bed; however, the bed was comfortable. There was a washer and dryer which is a plus but we did not need to use it. There is a separate room attached to the bedroom with a jacuzzi tub but no toilet? Found this very odd and we had to walk to the other side of the cabin to use the restroom. We did see a mouse run across the counter and he ate my sunflower seeds haha! (Not too worried about this, this happens everywhere in a rural area). However, my BIGGEST issue was the floor. My God, the floors!! THEY WERE DISGUSTING!!! Whoever supposedly "cleaned" the place DID NOT clean or sweep the floors whatsoever. So much dirt and sand on the floor I had to wear my flip flops the entire time we were in the cabin. We had no access to a broom to sweep this up either. The hot tub outside was nice and very relaxing. The deck to the tub was nice also, however I do think the tub needs to be in a different position as the stairs in the tub were not facing the entry way from the deck. The porch to the cabin was a little rough, needs a good sweep and maybe a stain. The rails were also wobbly and not sturdy so I did not feel comfortable getting close to the edge. The location of the cabin was phenomenal. Close to everything and all the attractions. Also right off of the highway and easy directions to the cabin. The staff we encountered were courteous but this does not make up for the lack of attention needed at the cabin. I will give this company another chance, but I will not be staying in this particular cabin. it is outdated and needed of some upgrades, especially for the price that is...
