[2020.12.19-- 5 stars] Lots of improvement since the last 3-star review in March. The employee in question has certainly cleaned up his act, but is still a bit snarky to me. (Oh well!) Corned beef and roast beef are in regular rotation and cheese is now fully-stocked before closing most nights. Rao's Arabbiata makes at least a monthly appearance in the sauce aisle, though not the Alfredo. Always a good selection of stock bones in the meat dept. And my favorite Against the Grain GF pesto pizza is always in stock. (Now if we could just get those chicken tamales back.)
[2020.03.11-- 3 stars] Arrived around 9:30pm. Went straight to the pre-sliced deli section to grab provolone cheese and (hopefully) roast beef or corned beef. Saw neither, approached the deli and asked for some sliced provolone. Deli guy says he's already closed down for the day. When I said that I came specifically for sliced provolone and that there was none pre-sliced, he tells me "Yeah, it tends to go pretty fast." I also pointed out that there's no sliced beef in the case. He said, "Yeah, we don't do that any more because liquid comes out of it and it looks all gross and people don't buy it." To which I said to him: "Yes, people who buy beef know that sliced beef weeps and that's fine. There's nothing wrong with it. [Though, as an aside, Corned Beef does not weep, so what's the problem?] To that he countered: "Well, you're not going to see sliced beef there because it doesn't sell."
And it's odd, because when I see pre-sliced deli beef, I usually purchase two packages at a time. (And you can't imagine that they'd put out less than three packages.) But if it's your opinion that sliced roast beef doesn't sell, then why not say "We only stock it Tuesday and Thursday"? Or WHY NOT STOCK IT VACUUM-PACKED? And as far as Corned Beef goes--it IS corned beef season, after all!--it doesn't weep after slicing, so don't lie to me. And finally... if the provolone sells so fast, THEN WHY AREN'T YOU SLICING MORE BEFORE YOU SHUT DOWN??? It is SO infuriating to deal with people who have no clue how customer...
Read moreI think all these negative reviews don't do this place justice. I find that prices are similar to Wegmans in some cases. For instance, the last time I bought milk at Wegmans (the Wegmans brand), it was $1.89, but at Weiss (the Weiss brand) it was $1.79. Weiss is comparable to Wegmans. I have never seen milk that cheap at Wegmans. I also saved $6.65 off of about $45 of food, mostly meat and produce. I actually preferred their produce section over Wegmans's produce section because it was much easier to navigate and find what I was looking for. Plus, there were way fewer people there, too. However, their signs didn't seem right, and sometimes it was hard to find the price at all. For instance I bought a mango because the sign said 10 or $10, but it rang up at the register for $1.25.
The workers there are really nice. Someone always ask if I need help, and I'm sure one worker thought I was hilarious because I wasn't using a basket and my hands are full. He offered to get me one, but I refused. Moving on, even if they didn't help me, they still said, "Have a good day." I find the workers here to be nicer than Wegmans, probably because they're less busy and have time to be nice.
I personally don't have a Weis card, but the customers and workers used their Weis cards to get me the savings, so that...
Read moreLook, it’s a convenient little grocery store, but I’m kind of disappointed in their bakery. My sister and I decided to get a little peanut butter cake for our girls weekend. We got home and decided to try it. To our surprise it tasted like a dry sponge with some toothpaste on it. 8 dollars down the drain. Oh well, we thought, you can’t win them all. So, we decided to try again the next day and get some delicious looking Whoopie Pies. We got home and eagerly opened the box. We grabbed a pie and took a bite. Oh no, they taste like black licorice. It tastes like if someone were to make black licorice dog food. The texture was atrocious and the flavor even more so. 6 dollars down the drain. I didn’t expect the highest quality. I didn’t expect the best flavor. But I also didn’t expect whoopie pieified licorice. I just wanted a little chocolate and vanilla pie. Not even milk...
