Places like Pardini's Toy Box, Golf Land, Ye Olde Hoosier Inn and Al's Comics are what really made Stockton "someplace special" for me as a kid in the early 80's. So much has changed in 30 years, but I'm glad to see Al's is still around. Good memories...VERY good memories. This is where I came for comics, lead figures, model kits and early anime imports every Saturday. This was back when you could ride your bike to the Miracle Mile and dump it next to the door of any shop with no fear of having someone take it.
When my two oldest (both adults now) were able to walk and talk and understand...well...toys, I took them with me to Al's. It quickly became a weekend ritual until we eventually moved to the Bay Area. Al and Mike would let them peruse the store as if they were family, even bringing them behind the counters to pick and choose between the dozens of figurines on display. Again, very good memories.
Our youngest turned two in July and we're looking forward to making a special trip to Stockton to visit Al's once again. Can't wait...
Read moreI'm not a regular shopper at this comic shop, but the one time I visited, it was pretty cool. Great selection of modern books, and lots of place to peruse back issues. I purchased 2 silver aged Fantastic Four books on the wall to add to the collection I'm trying to complete.

Read moreI've been going to Al's Comics since the late 90s. This is the best comic shop south of Sacramento. The no-nonsense store is wall-to-wall books, ranging from the 60s to current, and from mainstream to independent labels. Al, himself, is a local hero with a large following and makes you feel welcomed. If you're new to comics, thinking about getting into comics, or a long-time collector, Al's Comics is your best bet in the Valley. Absolutely worth your...
