Out of state people BEWARE.
The most bureaucratic experience I have experienced for a long time. My rating of 1 star is to much. Being from out of state I tried to do my duty and get my Ohio license plate for my truck I bought in another state 3 months ago where I lived. Below is what Ohio wants you to do to be able to do your civic duty to obtain an Ohio plate and pay your Ohio fees.
Need E Check if 6 yrs old or older. I got this.
Go to BMV and get a piece of paper with your VIN wrote on it($5). No clue what this is for?
3 Take off work and go to a different town to the Title office. No one at the BMV said take your title. Bank has the title so after driving 30 miles they said I need title and they can fax it to them.
Problem - my current out of state plates will expire in 1 week. Title office said go to BMV and get a temporary plate until title gets here and you can get permanent plate.
Back to BMV for temp plate. Oh no, you can’t get a temp plate without your title (had registration for current plates in hand). I said why would I be here if I had title in hand??? Wouldn’t I have gave that to to Title office 30 miles down the road last week when I took off work to drive there???
People from out of state, save yourself all the BS and frustration and keep your out of state plates. I was warned by four other people who moved here from out of state about the BS. They all kept their out of state plates.
Ohio BMV, you need to get in the 20th century. Where I come from you walk into one BMV and 10 minutes later you walk out with...
Read moreOn February 8th, I went to the BMV in Streetsboro, Ohio for a new driver's license. After purchasing the license, I noticed my street address of "Florida Street" was misspelled as "Flordia Street". After a few weeks of traveling, I decided the typo was causing too much confusion and needed to get it corrected. On March 2nd, I went to the same Streetsboro location with my receipt and defective driver's license for a new one to be printed. Representative Kat was rude and dismissive to me, and told me that I would be charged for it to be fixed because it had to have been misspelled on my previous ID as well. She said several times "we don't do that" and "no you have to pay". Linda was the name of the representative who initially created the typo on my February 8th visit. Upon returning home and paying $22.50 to get the typo fixed, I located a photo copy of my previous driver’s license to confirm that the address was indeed spelled correctly. This proves the error was made by Linda in Streetsboro, and that I should not have been charged in this instance. I should not have to pay $22.50 in order to compensate for representatives who cannot spell the word "Florida" correctly. On top of that, I should not be responded to dismissively for making such a request. I have filled out the brief survey associated with my visit, however it only allows me 200 characters which is not enough to explain my situation. I will never return to this location and do not...
Read moreThrough no fault of their own this location in Streetsboro was as busy as I've ever seen it. I made the mistake of going on Friday the 28th of May(Memorial day weekend) at 12:15pm. They were still adhering to covid-19 protocols and only allowing 15 people inside at a time. I had to wait 10 minutes outside in 48 degree rainy weather, then another hour and 20 minutes inside. The main problem is that people don't come prepared with the necessary documents needed for whatever they are there to get. Valuable time is wasted when people stand at the counter going through the process only to find out after 10-15 minutes later that they're missing paperwork and have to leave and come back another time. One guy didn't even know what county he needed his plates for. The clerks have a tough job dealing with the general public. We don't need to make things worse by not coming prepared. UPDATE: 2024 Since my last post the Streetsboro BMV has moved to a new location. I love this place. I don't know why but it is never super busy. I live in Ravenna and it is much more convenient to drive to Streetsboro when you have to...
